Blu-Ray packaging oddity

I took advantage of Amazon UK's offers on the series blu-rays the other day, and received my delivery yesterday. I noticed though that the packaging is somewhat inconsistent.

See the picture below: TOS S1 and S3 have a sleeve, and S2 doesn't. Similarly TNG S1 doesn't, while the other TNGs do. Is this standard, or have Amazon shipped me something slightly wrong?

I don't care enough to return them or anything, but just curious as much as anything... And would Amazon have any spare sleeves to send me, if I did query it?

I suspect it's down to something as simple as when they were printed. i.e. the first print run came with a sleeve later ones didn't.

Yeah I had that when I was getting all the X-Files DVDs a few years ago.

Seasons 1-6 all had sleeves/covers. Season 7 & 8 didn't. And then Season 9 did.
Even more annoying was that all of the plastic inside boxes are black apart from Season 8 which is see through.
So it looks a bit inconsistent when I line them all up. Minor annoyance I agree.

It can be mildly irritating when they change packaging design halfway through a series of films/TV

I ordered the TNG and Enterprise sets myself, but they haven't shipped yet. I'm curious if some of mine will arrive without the slipcover also. It would be a minor annoyance, but one I've always put up with when purchasing multiple seasons of the same series. Sometimes they are just issued differently.

I've heard that sometimes Amazon doesn't ship the sleeve to save money.
I don't know that's true, it may just be an urban rumor thing.

I've never once missed a slip when ordering something on release date. Tends to only happen when I order something that has been out for a while.

I can't remember where I bought the S2 blu-ray, but I know it came with the sleeve. I've never had a Trek BR that didn't.

I kind of wish they *didn't* come with sleeves, which are useless to me (I threw them right into the recycle bin), but there we are.

Yeah, this for me also. I got sleeves on all my Trek blu rays, but didn't hang on to them (except for the 'foldover art' versions on the movie-length TNG ones, I kept all of those for collector's value ;)).

Was uming and arring about TOS1-3 blus for past couple of days due to the crazy price (never got TOS on DVD just own the 3ep VHS series) Ordered them last night. This morning see they are back to full price. that was close! (offer was probably to coincide with the London convention)

Yes. All of my TNG blu ray box sets so far , except for season 2, have an outer sleeve. Quite odd, but just a minor annoyance. No cause to take them back to the store.

What was really annoying was when you purchased the TOS S1-3 boxset (repacking of the 3 individual sets) S1 and S2 included the slipcover, but S3 did not.

You could have sold the sleeves on ebay!

Go to some of the forums on bluray.com and I believe there is a dedicated sub-forum for sleeve-collectors. Some will buy multiple copies of titles if there are different sleeves! Oh, and steel-books too!
That said, I have all the TNG blu-ray sleeves. If I loan a title out, the sleeve stays with me! In fact, I've loaned discs out in just a cd jewel case, just to protect the packaging! At least blu-rays seem to be more sturdy than dvds...

Inconsistant packging drives me mad. I got a slipcase on Iron Man 3 - none of my other Marvel Blurays has one !

Books and DVD's with spines that don't line up are another annoyance. And I recently purchased a series of 12 novels in matching covers. 11 had a gloss finish, 1 matt...

I used to think that was a joke. I don't now. I was at Wal-Mart shortly after the recent Captain America movie was released. They had five slip-covers with various characters on each, and there was somebody flipping through the stacks, searching to get all five, and in pristine condition (a pristine piece of cardboard? really?). I asked if he was getting them as gifts. Nope, he had to have one of each version of the movie. If the slipcover is different, it's a different version of the movie.

He spent more than a hundred bucks, just for the extra four slipcovers.

My TNG season 1 Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk didn't come with a slip case. Well, I don't think it did. I've spent ages looking for it in the house but to no avail. I'd never have thrown it, so I have to assume I didn't get one. All my other seasons through to 6 have covers.

Slightly annoying as they don't all line up the same on the shelf.

Might see if I can get hold on an S1 cover at some point.

Could just take the slip covers off the others?

I know, but however much this probably goes against the grain for most people, I actually like them. :alienblush:
