Blazing Saddles...

You know, something can be racial, incorporate race and racial terms, without BEING racist. Otherwise every discussion about race would be racist.

I prefer the original Producers, but enjoyed the musical version.

My term paper in Comedy class (started with Lysistrata, Moliere, Voltaire, etc) was titled "it's Good To Be Mel Brooks!". Even that movie, which wasn't among his best, has so many great lines! And " To Be Or Not To Be" was great!

I Love blazing saddles, it turns my mind into a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.

Gol darnit, Mr. Lamarr, you use your tongue prettier than a twenty-dollar whore!

History of the World, Part I had some funny bits, but a lot of it was just crass and vulgar. I haven’t liked any movie he made since then.

I don't mind it too much, but I didn't find Madeline Kahn to be that funny in the movie itself. She kind of got on my nerves character wise . She's a good comedian overall, but in this film she kind of fell flat.

Liked Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men in Tights better, but it's still in my top 3 films that I like by Mel Brooks.

Seriously, for anyone who hasn't seen The Producers, see the 1968 original first.
I showed that to my wife for the first time not too long ago (she'd never seen it). Her reaction when they got to the actual play was the same as the audience, with her mouth hanging wide open! And then she completely lost it when I pointed out that the director, who she knew looked familiar but couldn't place it, was Mr. Belvedere! :guffaw:

"HEY! THE SHERIFF IS A *DING*!"

"What did he say?"

"He said the sheriff is near!"

"NO DAG GUMMIT! I SAID THE SHERIFF IS A *DING*!"

This is one of those films where you actually could do it line by line (unlike those unbelievably mindless Trek threads) and find a gem in every one.

Oh yeah. I've memorized all of the lines to three movies: Blazing Saddles, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Spaceballs. To me, they're all eminently quotable.

Agreed. Especially Robin Hood. That movie has stayed with me forever... also, Mrs. Doubtfire was another film like that, that has stuck with me :).

Animal House I have had memorized since I was 16. I wonder if I could still do it??
