Blake's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

I love watching the bloopers up on youtube. The one where the ships break off their strings or the guns fail to fire---for some reason, that just cracks me up.

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Too true.

I actually missed that episode when it first aired in Australia. My sister was in hospital at the time so we went to see her.

She wasn't too happy when we visited and my dad pointed out I gave up on watching Blakes 7 to come and see her but hindsight shows I wasn't wasn't missing anything.

It did have that small blooper of Avon slipping as he runs into the lab...

Yeah he recovers well all things considering! It also has the amusing Vila in the sludge tank scenes...but really that's about it!

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Finally got a chance to watch a couple more:

The Web Ep 1.5
Not a stellar episode, and apparently one of the top picks for elimination in the Hurt/Heal and Episode game.

I do find it interesting and cool though, that Blake was so concerned about the native life forms and their subjugation.

Also, we learn a littel about Cally's people

Nopt much aside from that, though

Search, Locate, Destroy Ep 1.6
This one was much better.

We see Servalen (First time so far, right?) and we see her assigning Space Commander Travis to go after Blake,

Travis is great, I remember I always enjoyed the character chasing our heroes.

Looking forward to watching this rivalry heat up

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

So...I watched Blake's 7 back in the day, on PBS with T. Baker and Davison (and Maybe C. Baker also?) as the Doctor and Blake's 7 alongside it

That used to be my Saturday morning around about a decade ago. As a student, up at 0600, 0630, an episode of Blake's 7 followed by a Doctor Who omnibus on UKTVGold.

Why I didn't tape any of those or the original Twilight Zone episodes on Sci-Fi later on the same day, I don't know, but I could really do with a few episodes right now

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Ep 5 Mission to Destiny

I don’t remember having seen this one before, I really enjoyed it, it was a really well done mystery. I figured out before the body was discovered that the escape pod was launched empty, but, the culprit took me by surprise and I was guessing at what comes next several times. Despite Blake and Avon’s ruthlessness, they do take care not to have innocent victims, and they do stick up for the victims of the Federation or simply underdogs in trouble

Ep 6 Duel

This one I remember well, in fact, this is the one episode that I did have on my Dr Who tapes when I burned them all to DVD, hence this is the one episode I’ve seen in the last 20+ years since I watched the Series on PBS back in the 80s.. Blake of course is victorious and doesn’t kill Travis, and Travis doesn’t learn a thing.

I notice the Mutoids are all women, at least so far, weren’t there female android slaves on Space 1999 also, on Moonbase?

Travis’ “eye patch”- Is that just really, really bad makeup effects, and that’s supposed to his actual scar, or is it an eye patch cover? You can see at the bottom that it’s obviously not part of his face, LOL

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Didn't care much Duel, but I have always liked "Mission to Destiny." I liked seeing Avon take on the "detective" role; his character was really starting to solidify.

And can anyone tell me who plays one of the mutoids?

I haven't recognized anyone so far?

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Yup she's in Project Avalon ;) You do get male mutoids on occasion, usually they're female though. I once had an idea for a fanfic that would have seen Jenna pre the London, narrowly escape being dumped into the Mutoid program.

I really like Mission to Destiny, Avon and Cally always work well togeather, and its a neat little mystery, and you've gotta love Avon's line "Better get her out of here, I really rather enjoyed that."

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Episode 9 - Project Avalon

Another example of how manipulative the Fedration is, and how far they're willing to go. Major Mind Frell from the Government. I'd forgotten just how how cool a character Servalan is, and Travis too, is awesome. I think those two and Avon make the show (though several others are great characters too). And Blake comes out on top, with a major defensive manuver.

Wow, I never would've recognized/noticed her, if it hadn't been pointed out. Even after knowing to look for someone, though I did recognize her, I couldn't place her, and had to peak at IMDB. Perhaps it's because it's been so long since I've seen S4? I figured it had to be one of the S4 girls, though.

Episode 10 - Breakdown
Truly an awesome episode.
Zen refuses an order,
Avon's loyalties are tested
Gan's in mortal peril (Thought we were gonna lose Gan there for a minute :( )
Jenna's Piloting skills are tested again
Creepy Dr. Caine

Avon just drips with sarcasm, no matter what he says or does. He really is a fantastic character

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

^Yes, Avon is what makes Breakdown worthwhile for me. To be honest, Gan going haywire was a bit cringe-worthy in parts--but I loved Avon jumping ship, temporarily.

I also liked Blake's threat, "No I won't kill you; I'll destroy your hands." The perfect threat, and not what you'd expect from the Blake we've seen so far.

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Yeah that threat of Blake's was just plain nasty...I guess he learned a thing or two from the Federation. Breakdown's never been a huge favourite of mine, but it does have some good bits.

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Oh, Project Avalon, when they have her head opened up. Many would call that crappy special effects. I choose not to see it that way. I choose to believe, that's what it really looks like, due to the Technology being so different and so advanced :D

Watched Episode 11 last night, but, was doing too many things while watching, so will have to try again tonight

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

I liked both of these episodes. Avalon made you feel that Blake wasn't along in his quest to destroy the Federation, and it was the first episode to explore the possibility of a network of resistence fighters (outside of the pilot, of course).

Breakdown was fun, and it was nice to get an episode that revolves around Gan for a change. Glover is always a great guest star. Unfortunately this episode suffers from the padding that ended up in the scripts towards the end of this season (the whole space vortex sequence was added by the director to fill out the duration of the episode).

Yes, Avalon was indeed the first advancement of the Resistance Movement (And how the Federation is willing to deal with it) in the storyline.

Breakdown, I like the space vortex scenes, but, yeah, they coulda been shorter, and we coulda gotten more Avon scheming or more Dr Creepy being humbled

One thing I did catch from last night's half watching of Ep 11 is that it's the first time we have Cally "using" her telepathy as part of the team arsenal. She even says she needs to practice certain characteristics and uses for it :bolian:

It will come up again in Shadow the episode which also gives us Avon's line about "the sort of natural stupidity that no amount of training could hope to match" :)

Re: Balke's 7 Revisitation (rewatch)

Episode 1.11 Bounty

Cally uses her Telepathy as a weapon in the group arsenal for the first time

Lori Singer wants to leave the planet and go home to Fight for Rights, Clint
Buchannan wants to avoid getting involved

Blake, once again, proves how brutal he is, smashing the man's music,
a precious antique from centuries earlier. And then threatens to destroy
other precious antiques

Jenna "turns on the Crew" - Sally (and the Director) did a great job of
showing Jenna so convincing when looking at the other characters, while
showing the audience her true motivation. Very nicely arranged performance.

Jenna and Lori Singer bicker, so that Jenna can roam free.

Jenna beats tar outta her guard and sets the Crew Free.

Episode 1.12 Deliverance

To play off of Guy Gardner's comment in The SGU Episode Deliverance Thread- "I
enjoyed it depsite the lack of Gay Sex" (Though Avon did have a beautiful
Strawberry-Blonde woman throwing herself at him, and he ignored it. She was
even on her knees calling him a God at one point).

Servalan and Travis talk about Something called ORAC (After Servalan makes him
wait and fester for awhile, LOL). Travis and Servalan are so awesome together
(Oh... Anna, Servalan called and she wants her hair back, you need Inara Hair :D

Pilot has energy cells for his father to save his life. And tells Blake and Cally
The Federation have agreed to pay 100 Million Credits for ORAC. When Blake asks
what ORAC is, the Pilot starts choking (LOL, stereotypical, but, fun for the mystery,
nonetheless

Pilot forces them to set sail to his father's planet, and Cally almost gets her head
blown off. ("Are we stay like this the whole flight", heh)

Avon of course, quickly solves the power problem. The Suoerman pose at 39:31 right
after the flash to the rocket is hilarious (And again later)

Padding with Jenna being captured, escaped, captured <Rinse, Repeat> and all the
running and fighting with savages.

It's funny, we whine about 18 minutes of commercials per hour these days, but, back in
the day of 10 minutes or less of commercials, there was 10 minutes of padding, LOL)
Story pacing is easy to armchair quarterback, but, being under the gun week after week,
and arriving where you want to in the arc, after a specified length of time, that's
gotta be difficult without padding, when you have 8-10 minutes more time in an hour
long episode then, versus now.

Near the end Cally asks, "Did she really think you were a God"
Avon replies, "For Awhile"
Blake asks, "How'd that Feel"
Avon shoots back, (With a loving smirk) "Dontcha know?"
Blake Finishes with "I never wanted the responsibility either"

They set off for Daddy's planet to deliver the Energy Cells
