BLADE rights regained by Marvel, planning Film or TV Series

Dream

But now comes word from Marvel CCO Joe Quesada that Marvel has regained rights to both Blade and the Punisher. And that both properties will be developed into TV or film projects, but not anytime soon.

When asked about making a movie based on a black character, Quesada said: "One of the things we have to deal with first are the icons. If we don't do those first, other characters regardless of race or ethnicity, will fail. I dream of the day that there will be a Luke Cage movie."

This is great news.

Instead of getting another Blade Trinity, the next Blade should be good. Marvel really is doing a decent job on all their superhero movies. Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America were awesome.

So what has Wesley Snipes been up to these days?

It won't be Snipes. Friege did say additional plans for the studio would come later this fall. Perhaps Blade will be one of the 'smaller' projects they tackle. A film sub-$100m budget.

Curious to see what they do with Blade. He's already an established property which is great. The fact that he was licensed out as one of the manga shows is indicative I think of his popularity and that he hasn't been forgotten.

Behind the scenes it's had a few bumps in the road with

-Norton/Marvel/Ruffalo as Banner

-Faverau not happy with Iron man 2

-Terrance Howard being lowballed by Marvel and being recast with Cheadle

Glad Punisher is back. If there's on character that needs a smash hit it's punisher. The property has been rebooted 3 times.

Lundgren
Jane
Vinny Jones.

But, as you say, that's all gossipy behind-the-scenes stuff that the average viewer doesn't care about. THOR was a hit. CAPTAIN AMERICA is getting good reviews. People are excited about THE AVENGERS. They're on a roll. Good for them.

Curious to see what they do with Blade. Maybe something with Morbius?

^^^
Morbius would be cool. Any chance he's wrapped up as part of the "SpiderMan package" with Sony in a similar manner that Fox has the "Mutant package"?

Good point. That's possible, I suppose. Which would exclude Man-Wolf, too.

Lilith, Dracula's daughter, should be free and clear, though.

Interesting. I thought the "Blade" rights were already regained. I don't expect the news that Finge promised for this fall to cover "Blade". I expect that we'll hear announcements for "Doctor Strange" maybe "Sub-Mariner" and the "Punisher" reboot. Perhaps even finally Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" or "Black Panther".

So what has Wesley Snipes been up to these days?

Until 2013, he's in federal prison for tax evasion.

Yeah, I saw that someone had tweeted his address for fans to send mail while he's behind bars.

And Punisher has only had two movie reboots, not three.

There was the Dolph Lundgren movie, which was the first Punisher.

It got rebooted with Tom Jane.

And then rebooted again with that other guy.

I'm guessin' Marvel will just clear the board & start all over with both characters, though, really, the first two Blade movies were pretty good. Sucks that Wesley Snipes won't even be around for the new version of the character.

:mallory:

Ray Stevenson, not Vinny Jones. He was also in Thor as Volstagg.

Snipes or no one.

Gotta disgree there. Snipes was good, no question, but no actor is irreplaceable. If we can have at least six Jame Bonds, five Batmans, seven Supermans, four Bruce Banners, and God knows how many Sherlock Holmes's, I think we can have a third Blade . . . .

Also he's too old.

I didn't watch Blade Trinity because everyone told me it was utter rubbish.

I'm glad Blade is coming back but I have doubts it will succeed in our post-Matrix times. It will be cool though if Marvel gives the series to one of the up and coming action directors from Hong Kong.

As for Punisher, I don't know if he'll ever work. He's too much of a product of the 80's. Today people are afraid of terrorists (which require large organizations to fight) and Big Corporations. Then there is Batman, Lord of thug smacking. Seriously no one can compete with Batman. I think Deadpool would be a better since people like the whole comic/irony-action flick.

I'm very intrigued by this. I just watched the second movie and first couple episodes of the TV series a couple months ago and I really enjoyed both. I could definitely see this being one of their lower budget movies.

The Punisher isn't a hero or even an anti-hero. He is flatout batshit insane. Even he pretty much admits that if it hadn't been his wife and kids getting offed, it would have been something else that would have compelled him to go on a killing spree. In fact he killed his family AGAIN when he had the chance to get them back.
