BLADE rights regained by Marvel, planning Film or TV Series

and lest ye forget Eva Mendez did Ghost Rider and The Spirit, Ryan Reynolds did Wolverine and GL, ScarJo was in Spirit and IM2, as was SLJ, Ray Stevenson did Punisher War Zone and Thor and Jessica Alba did Sin City and the 2 F4 movies...

Between the (paraphrased) "Americans are too stupid to understand the shows that I like"

Americans are too stupid PERIOD. It's not an issue of what Americans get from a TV show.

and "anyone who disagrees with me is naive"

When you disagree with something as statistically proven as American stupidity that is the very definition of naivety. Honestly my statement was meant as a request for clarification NOT as an attack on a person's intelligence.

comments, I'm not really sure if you're at the right altitude to occupy the moral high ground here, but good luck with that.

I am not the issue here. YOU ARE. As a moderator you're the one who should set an example to other on how one behaves.

I didn't miss anything. Your wider point about the amount of time passed was simply wrong. Not only was the Vietnam War a recent event in the 80s,

America's full scale involvement basically ended in 1969 after the Tet offensive but the height of Vietnam was in 1965. After 1969 most active troops had begun returning stateside and basically Vietnam became a non issue to most Americans which is one of the reason why Saigon fell in 1975 and for your information CIA involvement continued well after 1975 (but that's irrelevant)

it was a far greater national trauma than the Iraq and Afghanistan wars will ever be, and came at a time when the treatment of veterans by the public was far worse than it is now, as was the understanding of the physical and psychological issues they brought home with them.

That's my point. In the 80's, I kid you not every cop, private detective and vigilante was basically a Vietnam veteran. It was acceptable to portray Vietnam veterans as crazed maniacs in the 80's. It is not acceptable in 2011 (thanks to our experience in the 80's).

definitely better than Kevin Nash's appearance in Thomas Janes' Punisher as the French henchmen.
he was Russian. they even called him "The Russian".

Oh right! The Russian! :guffaw:

Woops! I just remember a red and white striped shirt. All was missing was a black baret and a baguette.

I think the shirt in the comics/movie was supposed to be reminiscent of the striped shirts Russian sailors and Spetsnaz wear, but the size and spacing of the stripes is wrong.

I've been called that myself, a fountain of useless knowledge, consisting mostly of Saved by the Bell trivia!

Gotta disgree there. Snipes was good, no question, but no actor is irreplaceable. If we can have at least six Jame Bonds, five Batmans, seven Supermans, four Bruce Banners, and God knows how many Sherlock Holmes's, I think we can have a third Blade . . . .

Snipes is an ICON as Blade for sure; however, Idris Elba would make a killer Blade as well!

Ooh, great suggestion.

His turn as Heimdal in Thor totally had me feeling the Blade-vibe :)

But can he handle the physical aspect. It's one thing to stand around with a big sword, it's another to kill 50 vampires in under 10 minutes and look good doing it.

I think Tyrese Gibson or Chiwetel Ejiofor would be better choices.

Elba was a pretty badass hand to hand and knife fighter in 'The Losers.'

Would there be any way to find out whether or not Marvel's (re)aquisition of the filmic rights to the Blade character and property includes the rights to use Abraham Whistler? Even though he was created specifically for the film trilogy (and TV series), I've come to associate him with the character of Blade and honestly feel that having a Blade film or TV series without him would be like having a Batman film without Alfred.

In terms of who ought to be the new cinematic Blade, I would love to see Ejiofor in the role.

Ejifor is actually quite a small dude. Snipes isn't that tall but with his build, he looks physically imposing. Fair enough, Chiefel could work out but I think that like Sticky Fingaz, he'd look like a little a little boy impersonating Blade.

Gibson has the build and physique but Elba, like Snipes, has presence and acting chops. I think the swordplay would be little trouble to him.

Gibson would be better as Luke Cage. and that old spice guy should be Black Panther.

Chewy Ejiwhatsit should be the second Goliath. or maybe Falcon.

Michael Jai White is only 5 years younger than Westley. Would he still be considered too old to play our beloved daywalker? Or how about Michael K. Williams, Omar from The Wire?

I just watched his Mortal Kombat Legacy episodes, and based off how Blade was portrayed in the movies and TV series I could see Michael Jai White working.
