Black Panther - Pre-release Thread

Well, we don't know the context yet. Maybe the idea is to satirize Western prejudices toward Africa, our tendency to assume the whole continent is just savannas and slums and tribal villages when it actually has lots of modern cities and richly diverse societies. Showing the contrast between the West's condescending assumptions about Wakanda and the super-advanced reality could be a good metaphor for that.
 
Wow, great trailer. I like how they appear to be mixing traditional African cultural stuff, with the high tech futuristic stuff.

I would argue that's pretty true to the original source material. The original idea was that everyone assumed it was a primitive tribal nation (unfortunately, Stan Lee gave the Thing veiled racist undertones with the way he described it) and they were all shocked when they discovered it was technologically advanced. The term "third world" wasn't used, but I'm not sure that term was used in its modern context as "backwards" or "primitive" just then.

I left out the part where he's yawning when T'Challa is talking about the death of his father because he already saw it in a Tarzan movie. ;)
 
Pretty decent trailer. Love the vibrancy of colours and Serkis looks like he's having a ball. Mind you, Michael B Jordan's hair style and swagger made me pull a :wtf: . There's an air of retro 80's about it, and not in a good way. More of an "Eriq La Salle in Made in America" kinda way... still, looks just fine, though the One Sheet poster needs a few tweeks...

No and not for some time.
Studios still relegate January and September as dumping grounds for films they don't yet want to send right to Home Release but no longer feel confident into promote. At one time, yes, February and even August were part of those dumping ground months but that was when studios had fewer Blockbuster films taking up weekends on the calendar due to fewer theaters across the country having screen space.
This is not 1975, 1985 or even 1995 so snap out of it please.

Feb and August are now considered prime real estate for some movies. Hell 15yrs ago March was considered risky but better than the 4 prior months and now March is most years a "Summer Prequel" practically.
 
I think at this point there are so many big blockbuster movies, that it seems like there's one or two big movies coming out every month.

Entertainment Weekly has published 20 new images from the film, including our first glimpses of Forest Whitaker's Zuri and Angela Bassett's Ramonda.

This film continues to look gorgeous. :adore:

I've never understood the point of those videos. I don't care how complete strangers react to other videos, no matter how ridiculous the reactions are.
