Black Panther - Pre-release Thread

Kirk55555, if it makes you feel any better about the BP, and there were only a couple scenes where I noticed any hip hop or rap, and both times it was ambient music that a character was listening to rather than taking the place of the score. Most of the music was orchestral score, and a lot of it did have a bit of an African tribal flavor to it.

Yep. I got that too.

Like I said, I'll definitely watch the movie when I can see it for free. So, when the library gets it on DVD around September/October (I'm assuming that as the DVD release date). The movie itself took away any real excitement I had for it, but its an MCU movie. I'll watch it for the sake of completion if nothing else. I'm sure it will be perfectly serviceable, like Thor 2 or IM 2. A decent film but with a few huge flaws, basically. I would be honestly surprised if its a dumpster fire like Spider-Man Homecoming. It won't be anything special for an MCU film, but that is far from a bad movie. FOX and WB wish they could release something as good as Thor 2 or IM 2 on a regular basis.

I think BP deserved to be better, but I suppose with the director it got it was never going to be more then a C-tier MCU film. Which still means its the best film that director has ever done (I think Creed is hot garbage, FYI, and finding out BP had the same director killed my enthusiasm way more then the potential soundtrack, which is saying something). Luckily, this year we have two MCU movies that will almost certainly be great, so having another Thor 2 level movie isn't going to hurt the MCU when they also have an Avengers movie and Ant-Man sequel coming out.

78.5 million opening day for black panther. The prediction of this becoming the third highest grossing mcu movie is looking likely to come true.

I really loved the movie. Killmonger might be the best villain in a MCU movie, maybe all of comicbook movies. He was sympathetic and understandable in his intentions.

Let me guess, it's because you dislike the idea of superheroes co-existing in one world and meeting up with one another.

If that was your guess, it was far off the mark. Perhaps you should consider not making assumptions about others.

As for "Black Panther", it was the first MCU I have enjoyed since "Ant-Man". And it was the first MCU movie that really impressed me since "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians of the Galaxy". Personally, I consider it to be my fourth favorite film in the franchise.

I'm seeing this Monday. It'll be the first MCU movie I've seen in the theater since the second Avengers movies. I usually don't get around to seeing them until they hit blu-ray. Hopefully the movie lives up to the hype.

A great behind-the-scenes featurette on Ludwig Göransson's collaboration with Sengalese musician Baaba Maal to produce the beautiful score for Black Panther:

kirk, the music you hear in this featurette is what you hear for about 90% of the film. There are only two songs (including one of the singles) from the soundtrack during the actual film with a third during the credits (the other single).

Well, thats a good thing if true. I just found out that both my brother and Dad want to see it, but my Dad (who would be our ride, so needs to be on board) is even more anti-rap then I am and that was killing any chance of seeing it. If its only one or two rap songs in the film itself, I think I might actually have the opportunity to see it, which would be nice even if I'm a bit wary after finding out who the director is.

"...if true."

Why would I lie?

One song is heard for about 30 seconds before fading in the background at the casino and the other used for about 15 seconds during an action sequence. You barely notice them and they only stood out to me because I've been listening to the soundtrack.
