I think that was a failing of the Crucible books, btw.

Regardless (not that I'm a continuity-slave), but I think the format would just be dull. I would prefer a story, with multiple characters, and good characterization. I'm not fascinated by a fictional biography.

William Rotsler's "Star Trek II Biographies" was aimed at younger readers but, as interesting as it was, the entries were already being overwritten by canon when ST III came out.

Mind you, Rotsler created "Nyota" as Uhura's first name - for "Star Trek II Biographies" - which was then picked up by "Uhura's Song" (by Janet Kagan) and other novels.

"Burning Dreams" by Margaret Wander Bonanno is a great bio of Pike.
