Bill Shatner open to appearing in Discovery

An ancestor of William Riker could be showing up, since Jonathan Frakes is one of the directors on Discovery. He might show up if he is doing it for free.

I wanted him to be chef on Enterprise.

Maybe he could play a relative of Cyrano Jones selling tribbles to Lorca for his big Double Top Secret Klingon War Plans in the episode "When I find myself in times of Tribble".

I'm not sure about Shatner, but I bet Patrick Stewart will eventually guest star on The Orville. In fact, I'm surprised Stewart didn't play the Admiral role in the pilot episode that was played by Victor Garber.

Perhaps MacFarlane has another role in mind for Stewart and didn't want to use him for the role Garber ended up playing. Or, MacFarlane was worried that if he cast Stewart in a "throw away" guest role (in the grand scheme of things) in the pilot episode, people might complain about it being "stunt casting".

Stewart is a given but considering Seth has gotten Shatner to appear as Kirk at the Oscars and Charlie Sheen's Comedy Central roast, The two do know each other so it is possible. It would be awesome to see Shatner and Stewart together on The Orville. Perhaps two rival admirals that has arguments over whose better. ;)

I would love to see Shatner show up on DSC, either as a voice that we hear or playing an ancestor of James T. Kirk.

We already know from TOS that Kirk had seen Harry Mudd in a Federation Prison. It would be awesome if Mudd winds up in a Fed Prison in DSC if there is some reference to Lt. Kirk having some involvement in that.

If they have the right story they have to do it quick. More likely in the Kelvin Universe with Shatner as Old Pine than Kirk Prime, as suggested for Orci’s ST13. He was going to be Mirror ‘Tiberius’ or the Chef (a doppleganger who Daniels plucks out of time to stand in for Kirk at an historical event) in Enterprise S4 but I think there were money issues, so In A Mirror Darkly was made instead.

Maybe he could be a time travelling Mirror Kirk in Discovery? Apart from Older PineKirk I don’t know any more logical option to bring him back!

This conversation has taken place so many times since 1994, but all roads lead to a brick wall. Is its a curse? But I love the iedea of MacFarlane getting him for The Orville as a Kirk-esque character. I suspect Shatner may be more attracted to that ?

I disagree. Strongly. His scene for Trek 2009 would have made that ending so much cooler. Just reading it left a lump in my throat. Especially now that we know that would have been the very last time Shatner and Nimoy appeared on screen "together." Having Spock encourage Kirk, and having Kirk encourage Spock was a great stroke of writing.
No doubt there would've been a Nostalgia Factor, for some, had such a sequence played out in the reboot movies. But I'm glad it didn't because for general audiences -- and for myself, personally -- Shatner's inclusion would've felt forced.

A good voice artist and CGI person could bring the lost 2009 monologue to life.

Over night I've been thinking and The Orville may be Bills best option. Have him as Captain Jase C Burke, flagship Captain on his last mission, just about to retire. A lauded hero who the ladies swoon for. Taking the Mick out of Shatner's image but not too much and a respectful homage. Ed is skeptical but ends up respecting Burke.

Maybe by the end of the episode Burke finds a new purpose in life, so effectively a better finale than Generations.

Kirk in all but name.

Obviously, he couldn't be Kirk. But maybe he could appear as Kirk's grandfather? I'd assume he'd still be alive in that time frame.

There's only two ways for Shatner to come on Star Trek Discovery. Is if he plays Kirk grandfather, or if the Discovery in up in a alternate time line around 2320 where Captain Kirk is still alive.

Yeah, there are bascially just thre options and none of them involve Prime timeline James Kirk in real time interacting with the Discovery crew. Grandfather, Mirror Universe Emperor Tiberius involved with time travel across the dimensional barrier or alternate timeline set in the future. The first is the only one that wouldn't stir up the kind of frothing Nerdrage we haven't seen since "TATV..."

He would probably show up eventually to increase popularity of discovery. They need to cast him with Kirk to really draw in the Trek fan base. Netflicks and PBS has enough cash to do it.
