Bill Shatner open to appearing in Discovery

I'm actually fairly convinced Kirk will show up eventually, even more so than Spock. (Other than I'm sure there be a photo or whatever of him and Micheal when they were kids.) Especially if the war lasts into late season 2 or early season 3. They'd want to wait that long, otherwise his presence would just overshadow the rest of the cast. And, assuming they go by the 1 season = 1 year rule, then "teaching at the academy" would be the perfect cover for being whisked away and spending several weeks or months aboard a super secret ship that some how never makes it onto his official record.

And he'd be exactly they kind of person Lorca is looking for: young and unassuming officer who has also has some of the highest tactical aptitude scores in Starfleet history, displaying an unprecedented knack for unconventional stratagem - who also is recovering from a tragic mishap he feels responsible for and is undoubtedly looking for a purpose. (I also think showing Kirk at a part of his life where he's unsure and doubting of himself and depressed - even to the point of being suicidal - would fit right in with the show.

On that note, I think whoever they'd cast would have be a bit of a departure from Shat. And I think having him there would just be distracting and a bit too fourth wall breaking.

Maybe he could do a "voice cameo" with a body doppleganger seen from behind?

I thought about that - if DSC does an episode about the Farragut disaster (which, in-universe, is not due to happen for another year), perhaps Kirk as a voice on the comm system if the Discovery comes to assist.

But Kirk would only be in his twenties now, and there's no way Shatner could sound that young. I'm not sure even Chris Pine could.

It would make a lot more sense to have Shat play Tiberius Kirk than James Kirk.

I have a soft spot for Shatner and Kirk. It would be special to have him feature in some way.

In a callback to one of Shatner's later roles, he should be the senior partner of a space law firm representing one of the protagonists in a trial, or something.

Or he could be a crotchety old guy who provides material for his son's writing gig through his bizarre rants.

Thoughts on my mind:

1. Meeting Captain Kirk from the future (not bothering to explain how he's not dead)
2. This is actually Tiberius Kirk not James Tiberius Kirk. I.e. Kirk's grandfather
3. The Kirk of an alternate timeline
4. Kirk is God, which he's been trying to do for awhile.

He will want too much money as always..............
Which is why the voice acting spot might be the best way to go: presumably the cost would not be as high for that?

3A. Emperor Tiberius from the future of the Mirror Universe, since we know the MU will feature somehow.

^ EMPEROR TIBERIUS FOR THE WIN!

But if not that, I would love to see him as an angry and douchy (basically, a Discovery character) Admiral Tiberius Kirk. And he has to be like over the top douchey, taking regular everyday Discovery douchey to Shatner levels of ham. Discovery would go down as my favorite Star Trek series in that single moment.

I always figured mirror Spock disposed of mirror Kirk with the Tantalus Field.
Maybe that came from the novels.

I recall seeing that version. But I also recall seeing one where Spock used being loyal during Kirk's rise to get into position to make a real change.

Would love to see Kirk in season 2.

Can't see how having him be James T would work. Don't really care too much if it doesn't. Either way, I am fine with it.

BTW, outside of TOS, these are the best first 4. I am huge fan of TNG but the first year was not very good. DS9, Voy, & Ent were a bit better for the first 4 in my view.
