News Bill and Ted Face the Music Officially Announced

Fantastic news. I loved those two movies and look forward to the third! I would've never guessed that it could happen!

I always held out slim hope for some kind of a Back to the Future follow-up, but this will like totally most excellently do.

Alex Winter must be over the Moon.

I wonder if I could convince my mom to sneak down to where they film and try to get a peek. I don't drive so I have to rely on her for transportation.

I'm so glad the Galaxy Quest director is attached to it and hope that the sequel comes to fruition.

Not sure of what to think of that, as I wasn't all that thrilled with Galaxy Quest. :\

In a just-released video, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winterofficially announced that they are reteaming this summer to make a third Bill & Ted movie, titled Bill & Ted Face the Music. It has also been announced that Orion Pictures will release the film through United Artists Releasing in theaters nationwide on Aug. 21, 2020. The movie will be directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest), from a screenplay by returning franchise writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon.

In the film, Winter, of course, will play William “Bill” S. Preston Esq., while Reeves will reprise the role of Theodore “Ted” Logan. To fulfill their rock & roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they’ll be helped by their families, old friends, and a few music legends.

Yep. Didn't mind Alan Rickman in it, but I just found it to be too campy.

I'd say Galaxy Quest is the opposite of camp. Camp is parody with an element of scorn, spoofing things that take themselves more seriously than they deserve in order to highlight their ludicrousness. It tends to look down on what it parodies. But Galaxy Quest was a parody of cheesy sci-fi TV and fandom that ended up celebrating them and affirming their worth despite their silly aspects.

And that's your opinion. I can see what you mean by that, but honestly it wasn't my cup of tea.

"Camp" is unquestionably one of the most widely misunderstood terms used on TrekBBS, though words like "canon" are even more widely misused.

I still struggle to understand what "camp" and "kitsch" mean. Sometimes I think I get it, I mean really think I do, and then someone comes along and says it means something else that I really don't understand at all.

Kitsch, I think of Forrest Gump, mawkish sentimentality is the hallmark of kitsch works. Kitsch doesn't really strive for irony which camp productions do. Camp, besides Adam West's Batman, a lot of John Waters films like Pink Flamingoes or Peter Jackson's Bad Taste are things I think of as camp.

People view opinions differently, but facts are also a thing. The definition of "camp" is not about taste, it's about genre. It refers to a specific style of comedy, in the same way that "jazz" refers to a specific style of music.
Yeah, the only remotely camp moment of Galaxy Quest was Rickman still wearing the Dr Lazerus headpiece while at home.

I'd call Galaxy Quest more kitsch than camp. Mileage will vary on that.

That’s exactly what camp means. It’s about loving something not despite its lack of quality, but because of it.
