Big Brother USA Season 14 - Discussion (Possible Spoilers)

I couldn't help but laugh when they brought up the "silent six" name for the alliance last night. Just one or two episodes before, Ian had brought up the exact same name for an alliance with basically the same people, and no one seemed to like it. Now, somebody else brings the name up with the same group and they go into a song and dance routine about how great it is. Loved it. It was like a skit out of Carol Burnett's show.

Also, I wish they had shown more of Ian in his costume. That was very entertaining. He was totally getting into his cosplay. Usually the hamsters hate it, and he was just loving it. It's refreshing to see one of them enjoying it.

This whole week on Afterdark has been quite a treat to watch this backdoor drama unfold. Janelle truly was shocked I believe. I did see Britney lamenting a few times the fact that she was lying to Janelle, saying things like "I'm a bad girl" But I had no idea she was quite that worked up over it.

Watching that last "all four" coaches meeting (on Sunday night I think) was a blast and the so called "Silent Six" literally jumped on board the sink-the-Janelle-boat within hours after Boogie came and sold it to them. The man should be a politician. Of course Janelle was actually lying about how the meeting went to her crew the next day, saying that Boogie actually approached and wanted to work with her. When the sham got back to the others (Joe exception) they were all ready to take her down.

Ian did a great job in the dog house. They were scratching his back and taking him to the rest room, and feeding him treats and water in his dog bowls. :D And he even said he was looking forward to "sleeping under the stars." He did a much better job than Frank. Frank's cheera-tard (?) zipper ripped the first day he put it on (Saturday I think) and they wouldn't fix it until Monday. He was whining that his junk was hanging out and he had to walk around with pom poms everywhere he went, but that didn't last long.

I hate when they fuck with an HoH like that. Why skip the eviction after everything?

The conspiracy theorist in me believes they really like Frank and wanted to give him the reprieve that the house guests were not going to give him.

I'd really like to see Big Brother return to the S1 format with more fan control over things. I've been watching The Glass House and if anything, it has been proven that strategy can still happen where 100% of the control is given to the viewers.

I don't know, I mean, the new format of BB is so much more successful than the season 1 format. For myself, I watched all of season 1 but didn't really find it that memorable or exciting, so I tuned out of Big Brother and didn't come back to the show until season 5. I think the absolutely dreadful ratings for Glass House also show that the current Big Brother format is working pretty well.

It was an interesting week. I loved Janelle in past seasons, but this time around she seemed a little different. I don't think the coach format worked very well for her. It forced her to make up lies and run to the new power each week in attempts to campaign for her players, which she hasn't really done in the past, even with fellow alliance members. I'm not too sad about her leaving, she had been talking about, if she left, how excited she would be to get back to her 10 month old daughter. She can do this now since the jury hasn't started yet.

I'm loving the Quack Pack. Not so much the Silent Six, since Boogie and Frank are irritating to me. They didn't really cover it in the episodes very well, but Boogie and Frank don't know about the Quack Pack. They have no idea that Ian has made an alliance with Britney, Dan, Shane, and Danielle. However, those four have definitely informed Ian of the Silent Six, and their goal is to have Ian pretend to still be "Team Boogie," so that he can gather information from Frank/Boogie. This way, they are hoping that if Boogie and Frank are planning on turning on the alliance soon, they will share that information with Ian, who will then let the Quack Pack know before it happens. This is why Ian didn't put Boogie/Frank up against each other in the HOH knockout, and also why he cheered so much for Frank when he won, though I'm sure he was genuinely happy since he knows he's safe this week. Boogie thinks that he has complete control of Ian's vote.

So basically, Ian is in a great spot right now. He has a final 5 alliance that is loyal to him, as well as a 3 person alliance (Frank, Boogie, Ian) that while not completely loyal to him (Boogie/Frank have mentioned to others that Ian is expendable to them and they wouldn't mind risking him as a pawn - Ian knows this information), will at least protect him somewhat and aren't going after him. He knows what's going on on both sides, and while there is some debate among fans, I believe that Ian's true alliance is to the Quack Pack. It doesn't hurt for him to play up his loyalty to Boogie/Frank, but at the same time he is most honest and shares all of his information with the other Quack Pack members.

I hope that didn't come out all confusing...the strategy is pretty intricate this season, in comparison to the last few that I've watched. There are so many different layers going on, and they are changing constantly.

As for Wil, Ashley, Joe, and Jenn...they seem loosely aligned in different ways. Some of the others actually named them the Inner Tubes alliance, since they are all floaters. Jenn is not happy with Boogie and Frank and knows they aren't really working with her, but I'm sure she will continue the charade for this week since Frank is HOH. Joe is on the outs with everybody, he had no idea that everyone else was voting Janelle out, and will likely be going home this week. He also cooks family dinners every night that people are getting fed up with, since he uses all the meat in the house within a couple of days, and they have no food for the rest of the week. Ashley is just sort of there. Wil is intelligent, he is just sitting back and observing what's going on right now. He has the other alliances figured out, but hasn't done anything with that information yet.

The question is, how eager are Frank/Boogie to turn on the Silent Six this week? The plan is to get out Joe and put up a pawn next to him. The obvious choice would be Ashley, but Frank mentioned last night that maybe they should put up Dan to make him "sweat it out" like Frank had to last week. And if Joe gets POV, then who knows what will happen. It would seem obvious that they'd want to get Wil out, who is a strategic and physical threat, but Boogie/Frank are thinking of keeping him around to potentially work with him in the future. But, he might go up as a pawn still.

Scratch that, just now a conversation happened between Frank/Boogie/Wil, where Wil said he basically doesn't want to make any deals or promises for next week. Boogie and Frank didn't like his attitude and after he left the room they are now considering voting him out.

Who knows what will happen! These people change their minds every minute! Should be a fun week though.

Also, Ashley has been dealing with a back injury and is totally out of it most of the time, either from pain or her meds. It seems pretty bad.

So Wil and Joe are up and I could care less which goes as both of them annoy me to high heavens. Wil lost me from the beginning mainly because CBS tries to one-up themselves each year in casting "America's most fabulous gay man." Wil has done nothing to combat the stereotype about gay men in America's eye and in a game sense, his whole flip flopping all over the place (especially when he could have made a deal with Boogie/Frank to save himself) is just horrid gameplay. Joe's constant speaking at ten thousand decibels with constant Southern witticisms have lost me. Again, a poor player who hitched his wagon to Janelle, while annoying the rest of the players. Really, either can go and I'd be happy.

And was it just me or did last night's episode feel like an episode of old in actually portraying what they are doing day to day instead of strategy on top of more strategy. Kudos to the producers, this is the episodes I want to see as most of the strategy is so dry and used that it bores the viewers to tears.

I didn't like Wil initially and he still annoys me in the DR interviews, but he's kind of grown on me with his interactions with the other players; his talk with Frank and Boogie last episode was hilarious for example. He's much sharper than he looks, and if the other players have any sense they'll get rid of him instead of Joe.

He's gone, he's finally gone. I haven't made any secret of my distaste for him and CBS' attempt to shoe horn a gay stereotype down out throats each season.

I haven't watched it yet, so ... which gay stereotype? Wil or Frank?

Well, this has probably been the best week all summer. Lots of drama on Afterdark, and even more on the live feeds from what I've heard. Tonight was great with the double eviction scenario; putting Mike Boogie out with the trash, Ian shows he's a player after all putting Frank and Ashley up, Frank wins veto and is seething as his only ally left in the house is drummed out the same hour as Boogie. I swear I thought Joe was going to have a heart attack being put back up on the block(he was having some issues earlier in the week and had to get checked out by a medic).

Overall, really good ep.

Problem with the Fast Forward is that it is expected now and for a show that advertises "Expect the Unexpected", its big trouble.

This season is going the way of the Til Death Do Us Part season where they spent weeks trying to get out one player, James, because he was racking up veto wins. Unfortunately, like that season, once the players succeed in evicting Frank, these season will get dry and we'll be down to a Shane/Danielle final or something.

Watched After Dark last night for the first time this season and I gotta wonder why we don't see Danielle wearing those glasses on the actual show. I think she looks really good with them on! (Britney didn't look too bad in that orange bikini either, but I digress) :D

Yeah, that was the first time I'd seen her with glasses on. Of course they were all arguing whether or not she looked more like Bristol or Sarah Palin. Heh.

^ Heh, yeah, and she took it as an insult when that wasn't what Dan intended when he brought up the resemblance to Bristol. :D

Not happy to see Britney go, as that girl got screwed by her own alliances in both seasons. If she comes back a third time, perhaps she'll go it alone finally.

And why is no one even thinking to put up Shane? He's a comparable threat physically to Frank.

Yes, he's good at comp, but he doesn't appear to be as smart as Frank strategically (or genius snake Dan) and he appears to be more easily manipulated. Now if that is all a ruse, then maybe he's smarter than either of them, but Ian should really be looking to backdoor Dan if he know's remotely as much about this game as he boasts. He really just appears to be on Britney revenge kick though. I'll miss her too though. She was a riot.

Sad to see Frank go. For me, he was always separate from Boogie and since these people got tunnel vision on him, considering Shane (a physical threat), Dan (an ex-winner known for his cunning), and Ian (who has suddenly turned it on) He could go far in an All-Stars when the target isn't as huge on his back right off the hop.

I think it's down to Dan and Ian now. Shane isn't playing this game to win, he just doesn't seem to have anything beneath that American Eagle model physique and attitude. Danielle, much like Shane, is simply coasting in this game. Jenn might finally have some spark, but she is in no way a threat to win this game.

Yeah. I truly expected Dan to vote against Joe and force Ian to break a tie, thus "honoring his oath" and keeping his hands blood free. Could come back to haunt him from the jury if he goes far enough. But I guess he had enough doubt in the other players to not want to take that risk after all. That and all the questions that would arise from that action (though I thought he had gone over this with several others previously).

I am also a little surprised he put up Danielle, but figuring she was pretty safe from the get go, I guess he figured it was the best way to test the waters of loyalty in a crunch like situation. Joe didn't stand a chance, and in some ways it proves what a danger she is given that she is so popular.

Did we really need to see Rachel again? And has she finally figured out that she is simply a joke?

I would have liked it if they'd shown us Ian's reaction when he came back downstairs and realized everyone else got to see videos from their loved-ones. But I guess they spent so much time on the wheeling-and-dealing on double-eviction night there wasn't any more time.

And has anyone ever not chosen to open Pandora's Box? There have been a couple in the past who thought it probably wouldn't be a good idea to open it, but then do so anyway. Resistance is futile, I guess.

I LOVED when Danielle mentioned "He must really be suffering up there" (or something along those lines). We were laughing so hard we had to rewind the DVR to see what we'd missed. :D
