Big Bang Theory, yes or no?

My buddies and I had a few girlfriends who could give Penny a run for her money. ( Yeah, I know how that sounds).
Sounds like Penny isn't your type at all (not everyone is into Barbies), or insanely hot women find you attractive, either for your charm or your money (or both), and you like to brag about it now and then. :D

But I guess there are a lot of girls who would find a guy like Leonard handsome. It's not like he's ugly or anything. Some women actually prefer brains over brawns too.

BTW, for me, girls like Penny could never compete with brown eyed brunette intellectuals with killer legs like my GF.

BBT is one of my favorite programs, right up there with Doctor Who.

I empathize with the show considerably. I'm probably a Wolowitz leaning towards are a Hofsteter (I don't have my Doctorate -- yet). However, as I'm fond of telling my students (I teach college-level IT) that I'm roughly 4/5 of the cast. That is, if you took all their character traits and pooled them, I'd match about 4/5 of them.

(I don't match Penny -- I've never met a hot chick that willingly hung out with geeks. Look down on us, scoff at us, and just generally being jerks to us -- yes. Hang out with us and treat us like human beings -- never in 47 years.)

I've had all the geeky conversations they've had. Really. Over 47 years, I've had every single one. I know people just like the characters (except Penny).

Again, one of my favorite shows. Your mileage may vary.

Regarding Hot Girls hanging out with nerds - I don't think anyone, wether hot girl or guy, is simply going to hang out with nerds, unless they have interest in the group's interest (IE: Comic nerds talking comics 24/7 aren't going to have anyone hanging out with them who isn't in to comics), just as guys who sit around talking cars, sports, history etc 24/7 aren't going to be having anyone hanging out with them that isn't into those things.

So, really, when you say Hot Girls aren't going to hang out with nerds, you saying there are no hot girl nerds, and I can't buy that. You see pictures and news clips all the time of hot girls at conventions dressed up in costume, and I'm sure there's gotta be at least few of female posters that are nice looking, and what could be hotter than someone you find attractive that can keep up with your nerding out over your fandoms? I know from pictures that there is at least one very attractive girl on one of Antony's other small boards B5TV, and all the ladies who post here, there's gotta be some hot ones amongst the bunch.

My wife of 32 years was and is a hot nerd girl who likes sci fi, loves BBT and gets all the gags.

Next weeks episode:
The guys sit around and debate for days on the positives/negatives of a laugh track on a sitcom they watch.

You know, I can see that . . . .

BBT is the only sitcom I watch religiously, and, for what it's worth, I've never felt insulted by it--and I'm a lifelong scifi geek.

And, yeah, I recognize some of those conversations, too, as well as the action figures littering the sets.

Favorite moment: when Sheldon listed Rupert Murdoch alongside Judas and Brutus as one of the great traitors in history "because he cancelled Firefly."

Tell me that doesn't ring true! :)

Would have, had the cancellation not been justified. :p

Regardless, I'm pretty sure I've heard similar sentiments expressed around here!

Another great on-target moment:

(An X-MEN reference has just flown over Penny's head, much to Leonard's surprise.)

Him: "We saw the movie, remember? You said you liked it."

Her (sighing indulgently): "I say a lot of things."

Spoken like the long-suffering S.O. of many an obsessed fan . . . .

It's the rare stage of female enlightenment when they realize that jocks may have the bodies to crave for but nerds are the complete package (just without the body) who will respect you and care for you for the rest of their lives.. as long as there's no cool SF on TV ;)

"Oh no! They sent the wrong Spock! Live long and suck it, Zachary Quinto."

It's lines like that which might divide some folks on how they feel about the show. Personally, I get a kick out of it, but there are bound to be fans of the JJ Abrams film who get irked by it.

Of course, there are also nerds out there who know how to stay in shape. :p

Indeed. Some of not ony value it personally, but our profession requires it. You will find nerds in the military, police, fire departments, EMTs, and of course, astronauts, all professions which need a certain fitness for the performance of duty and to maintain standards of appearance.

Heck, even professional sports have a smattering of them. Curt Schilling, pro baseball player, I don't know if he is a scifi nerd, but he IS a gaming nerd, and fanatic of the board wargame, Advanced Squad Leader. Heck, when it's owning company, Avalon Hill, went under, it was his backing that helped save this most crunchy of historical wargames.

That is nerd love, friends.

As I recall, Sheldon hates Babylon-5, too, so it's not like he always gets it right . . . .

Besides, "They sent the wrong Spock, but Zachary Quinto is a perfectly valid reinterpretation of the character" just doesn't have the same zing to it. :)

Anybody who gets "irked" by a joke like that is taking this stuff waaay too seriously.

no but I got two stones for you. I love that game and I love the big bang theory great show. and don't forget penny quoeted spock a while back.

Guy at work is the biggest Batman nerd I ever knew - pictures and action figures all over his cubicle. He's also a firefighter and a weight lifter, and is in pretty damn good shape.

The JJ Abrams film is my favourite of the Star Trek films and I really like Zachary Quinto, but I thought it was funny. All they're doing is poking some fun at how defensive sci-fi fans can get about their favourite franchises. I'd hope that nobody takes the show so seriously as to actually be offended by what's a pretty harmless joke.

Love the Big Bang Theory and the new Star Trek movie too...it is my favorite and I was not offended in the least.

Sheldon has mentioned Leonard Nimoy and Spock in several episodes so it is really congruent with his character to act that way so I found it really funny.
