Big Bang Theory, yes or no?

M*A*S*H did use the laugh track most of the time, but there are some special episodes without it, and it never used canned laughter in the OR scenes.

I bring this up only because this is something that I happen to know, and how often am I going to have an opportunity to bring it up? ;)

BTW, re. the OP: Yes. I love the show. I laugh and laugh. Yes, it does make fun of geeks but then again, it makes fun of non-geeks, too. And I've know guys almost as odd as Sheldon - and I've known a LOT of guys like Leonard.

"My Mom sent me my old Nintendo 64" is followed by laughter from the audience? That's not even a joke!
Hey, careful there! Judging people for getting payed to laugh at unfunny shit isn't cool.

Heck, I'd do it.

That anybody would still have a Nintendo 64 IS a joke!
Why? One of my buddies never got rid of his (despite owning a PS3, a high-end gaming PC and shitloads of games), and still plays Super Mario 64 from time to time.

High five! :D

Nostalgia FTW. Honestly, I often regret giving away my old SNES.

I thought the last episode was pretty funny with Sheldon and the "Fun with Flags" bit. Way funnier than the 100th episode the week before. I don't know what was going on with the laugh track or audience (it sounded fake to me), but it was very annoying on the 100th Episode. I don't usually have a problem with the laughter on the show until that one episode. It wasn't a problem for me on last week's episode thankfully.

I can see why shows use laugh tracks after watching those clips. The writers would have to make the scripts almost twice as long if there wasn't laughter padding the running time out!

We should keep in mind that TBBT is written with a laugh track in mind. If it was a sitcom without a laugh track, like those on NBC, then it would be written differently. Videos that edit out the laugh tracks just don't work because the show isn't meant to be watched without them.

It's also worth noting that many of the jokes are designed to play off the studio audience, so without the laughter there, the tone seems all wrong.

As someone who has been part of that laugh track, the laughter diminishes on repeat takes so they likely use the laughter from the first or second take.

I was watching How I Met Your Mother recently and noticed how I never ever noticed their laugh machine. And it's true, the laugher is much less "aggressive", less forced upon the viewer. That way they also don't make these weird stand up comedy pauses where they wait until the laughter ends.
