I actually loved the Pulaski character. That was a great season. Great episodes but I'd have to go with Crusher as I've had the major hots for her since I was 13.:)

A little off topic but in one of the relaunch books it was mentioned that Picard offered Pulaski the CMO role on the Enterprise-E after Crusher left at the end of Nemesis. She turned him down.

Actually it was book nine of the "A Time to...." which took place between Insurrection and Nemesis, so I'm not sure if it counts as part of the relaunch, but I could be wrong.

And I'm glad Pulaski turned Picard down.

Here's what I posted in the other Pulaski thread, riffing off Timewalker's post in that very thread.

I preferred Pulaski - better actress, better character, and more credible all-around.

After all, the only reason Beverly was there in the first place was to provide "conflict" with Picard - because of their past, and his part in Jack Crusher's death.

Pulaski was opinionated, but she stood up for her patients (ie. Deanna, when she was pregnant). She wasn't a static character, as she eventually came to regard Data as more than a mere piece of walking hardware. And she had a respectful relationship with Worf (although I find it difficult to believe that Klingons have a tea ceremony!).

Sums up my feelings on Pulaski as well.

I'll also add that she was the only character on TNG to truly question and challenge Picard. She really pushed his shit in, which, imo, was what he really needed in terms of his own character development. I had hoped Riker would've been that defiant character, but somewhere along the way he got castrated... oh say about after "Best of Both Worlds, part II."

She felt like a fully-formed character and person, unlike Crusher, and while Pulaski has her roots in McCoy, the character and actress transcended the retread origins in just one season.

Whereas I never felt Crusher moved beyond being Janice Rand with a medical degree, i.e. the love interest that Picard (or Kirk) could never really have.

Moreover, I couldn't stand Gates McFadden's performance in the role or how the character was written. Crusher got more and more shrewish as time wore on. Q was right when he transfigured her into a yapping dog in "True Q."

"She gets more shrill with each passing year." (Q) Yeah, she did.

I always preferred Dr. Crusher. In general, just a smart personable character.

I also thought Dr. Pulaski was to hard edged. Later years though, I came to like Dr. Pulaski much more and kind of liked the strong dynamic between her and Captain Picard.

I'm still glad Dr. Crusher was the primary doctor for most of the series.

I also liked both :) I would be fine with whoever got to stay on the show as doctor. I really don't understand why people say they hate Pulaski. I don't see what there is to hate. But that's just me. Honestly I do not think she was a bitch she was just more skeptical about things, like she thought Data was just a machine, blah blah blah. So what? She was wrong, but that doesn't make her a bitch.

And yeah, I kind of agree with that too.

I liked them both but having to choose I pick Beverly Crusher
I liked her better and she is a looker too

I would most definatly have to go with Beverly!!! She had a good relationship with the crew being the only one who called them all by first name and I enjoyed her character throughout the series even though I feel she was strongly unused. I read back in this thread that someone had mentioned that Pulaski was the only one who would stand up to Picard and tell him how it was. I have to ask what I missed because I seem to recall a number of times that Beverly told Picard just what she thought and even a number of times she just plain didn't listen to him. I always loved the complicated relationship she had with Picard even if it went nowhere. It brought an interesting dynamic to the show that I feel would have never happened had they left Pulaski there. As far as Gates not being that great of an actor, she could only act what they wrote for her and allowed her to do. Anyone that limited would look shitty in my opinion.

I'm glad Doctor Crusher came back, but at the same time was sad to see Pulaski go.

I think they should have brought her back a few times over the rest of the series as a recurring character. And it would've been nice to see her during the wedding scene in Nemesis.

I loved Pulaski as much as Crusher, but Beverly was WAY hotter, and, well... yeah.

I think it's unfair that Pulaski had more actual medical stuff to do, than Crusher, just because she was written to be more McCoy-like.

But I vote to get Bev back. :)
