Better Call Saul, the TV series

I love how a prequel can create new characters that you don't know what the hell is going to happen to! A testament to the writing and acting that I even care about the fates awaiting Kim and Nacho.

Surely it's easier to care precisely because we don't know their endings?

...less so Howard. ;)

So Kim grew up in Nebraska?
Yup. We already knew that but I think this is the first time we've learned about her drunk-driving mother.

We don't even really know the fate of Jimmy either. Those glimpses into his life post Breaking Bad will also I assume get a payoff as well.

So if they were do another Breaking Bad universe spin-off what would people like to see? You know I could see Kim getting a whole new show about her. She losers her license and moves somewhere else to start a new life. A dark but funny drug comedy starring Skinny Pete and Badger. A prequel dealing with Todd.

Rolling Stone have a great article about Rhea (Pronounced Ray, things I never knew!) interesting to see what an impact her portrayal's had on the direction the show has taken.

I would love to see a podcast starring Badger and Pete in character.

Nacho’s fate is getting excited, probably coming to its conclusion this season.

I loved Kim just badassing the meeting with Kevin. We’ll see how that works out.

I hope Kim doesn’t end up being okay with being in bed with a drug cartel. Breaking the rules to protect the defenseless is one thing, this is supporting violence.

Unless I'm forgetting something, how is it we've never had that badass moment of Fring walking away from an exploding building until now?! GIF me please!

Jimmy/Saul continues to break more and more. He wanted to hold back with Lalo, but Lalo was never going to sit still in jail. It was hard to watch Jimmy look at the grieving Whalen family, but then Saul working his magic to make bail possible. He thought might have an out with the bail being set so high, but of course Lalo didn't even bat an eye.

Jimmy/Saul wasn't the only one to continue to break bad. Kim keeps moving in that direction. First, by not simply taking the blame for the mess with Mesa Verde and pinning some of the blame on Kevin for stubbornly not listening to counsel (which is true but...). Then she accepted Jimmy's position with Lalo on the merits of him pretending to do his best. I keep thinking we've reached the end of Kim's limit with Jimmy and yet that limit keeps getting extended. Will that happen again if and when Jimmy tells her about Lalo getting bail thanks to him? Even with the caveat of his arm being twisted? Every episode, I worry more about her ultimate fate.

And not just her. Nacho's storyline looks more and more likely to end soon. Which is a shame because he deserves better, but life in a cartel never ends well.

I think Kim might end up being used over Jimmy like Nacho's dad is used over him. She ends up having to go into hiding and Jimmy is forced to work for Fring. I think the lesson isn't how Jimmy is bringing Kim down but how he flies to close to the sun and has his wings clipped and he Breaks Bad in away he sort of wants to but he keeps trying to fight it because he doesn't want to loose Kim but eventually he goes to far and looses her yet also has to make sure Fring never kills her as well. In the End Mike and Jimmy both loose their souls in order to protect their families. It's what took them from living on the edge of the law to crossing it forever.

Fring’s “chicken bomb” reminded me of some of the clever things that Walt came up with in BB. Vince Gilligan entertains you, but often teaches you something as well.

Ha I was right about the reasons behind Kim's proposal.

Interesting to see that Jimmy isn't quite beyond redemption just yet, nice to see he still has his soul.

I have no idea what the endgame with Kim is going to be, literally everything from her being killed to her leaving town to her being at home the whole time Breaking Bad was going on seems possible.

Poor old Howard.

Remember the other desk in Saul’s strip mall office?
