"Better Call Saul" Finally is a go!

Bryan Cranston could work, but isn't Aarron Paul a bit old maybe? Well, not *old* but you know what I mean. If you look at that flashback in the final episode and look at Arron Paul in season 1-2, you can tell the difference notably.

(I think it was in the final episode anyway, IIRC)

I'm not sure how a Bryan Cranston or Aaron Paul appearance would make sense in the show. It'd be kind of like cameos in the Star Wars prequels, it'd have people meeting each other who are supposed to meet for the first time in Breaking Bad. Mike was established to have known Saul before the show began.

And as others have stated, I don't see how you can make Aaron Paul look age appropriate for a prequel. It'd pretty much be a Frakes in TaTV situation.

I only watched the series once, but I thought Jesse is the one who introduced Walter to Saul in the first place?

I don't see how it will work, unless the scenes with Walter and/or Jesse are flash-forwards of a sort to the time of the series. But I'll watch it, regardless, who am I kidding!

I must have missed this thread (or watched the series after this thread was made) but I'm definitely on board for a series about Saul. It'll be quite interesting.

I don't think he'll know Gus. I think he "knew a guy" who knew the guy.

I interpreted that to mean Mike was the guy that Saul knew who knew Gus.

Saul knew of Gus but didn't know much about Gus. I think it's correct Mike was his contact with Gus, but he considered Mike more his own business relationship than his own contact with Gus. Gus had no interest in Saul at all until Walter came into the equation.

But if Mike is a main character it would be easy to put Gus in.

I would hope Gus's role is rather small, because it's harder to tell a good story with characters whose fate is already known.

I only watched the series once, but didn't it initially appear that Mike was Saul's enforcer, but then in later seasons he was Gus' enforcer?

Mike is as much a fixer as he is an enforcer, and Saul isn't going to need him full time. I assumed he was basically a contractor, like the criminal version of a PI.

Whatever happens, a series about a crooked lawyer done in the style of Breaking Bad will be great.

Maybe he does. They call it a prequel, maybe it starts as a prequel and then move forward where it's a sequel and Sual is working in a fast food place and go Heisenberg on some asshole customer.

He could have gone Heisenburg, lost everything in a scheme, and then met Prof. White.

Yeah, they love to time jump in the show, so it may be a prequel, but also let's us see Saul in 'real time' too.

I expect there to be a present day framing device of him living under a false name and being miserable and flashing back to his glory days.

Based on the character we see in Breaking Bad it wouldn't make sense for Saul to go full Heisenberg. Saul is basically a Ferengi. Averse to violence but has no problem supporting the violence of others. So it would be more appropriate if another of his previous clients went full Heisenberg.
