Best Star Trek Ever

If we're talking about seasons as a whole, and admitting in the process these seasons might (probably) do include a few clunkers, I'd have to rank the first two seasons of TOS, the middle to late seasons of TNG, and the 4th season of ENT as my personal favorites.

I'd switch the mid-TNG for early-TNG, and add in TOS season three.

Way back in 2007 I did a series of polls on everyone's favorite episodes. Some of you might remember all that, it was a tad controversial and of course no one likes lists if they don't agree with them. And it took a bunch of different polls to whittle down to this final 20 list. Don't get mad if you don't like the list, but it IS how we voted on it back in 2007. And the process is not something I'd ever put myself through again. LOL
I know 'Moonlight' is a favourite among DS9 fans, but I'm surprised how highly it ranked above everything else there.

1 TNG Best of Both Worlds, Pt. 1
2 TOS Balance of Terror
3 TOS The Doomsday Machine
4 DS9 In The Pale Moonlight
5 TOS The City on the Edge of Forever
6 TNG Yesterday's Enterprise
7 TNG The Inner Light
8 TNG All Good Things
9 DS9 Duet
10 DS9 Trials and Tribble-ations
11 DS9 The Visitor
12 TOS Mirror, Mirror
13 TNG The Measure of a Man
14 TNG Q-Who?
15 TNG Best of Both Worlds, Pt. 2
16 TOS Journey to Babel
17 TNG Cause and Effect
18 TNG Darmok
19 TNG Tapestry
20 TOS Amok Time

No surprises in this list. I'd argue with the order of some of these, but that's about all.

Interesting that TOS Season 2 is better represented than TOS Season 1.

Yes, it certainly wouldn't be my personal list of the top 20 episodes of all of Star Trek, as I'd have an episode or two from ENT in it. With this board though, VOY and ENT have never had the popularity that TOS, TNG and DS9 have. And it'll be a long while before we know how all the new stuff pans out. It will be interesting to see how the Star Trek universe is when CBS has it's "year around Star Trek" going on.

I think on a board like this, nothing post-DS9 would have a chance of breaking into the Top 20 (and even there, only a few made it in). I feel the same way about DSC as you feel about ENT, but realistically-speaking, if we were ever going to do another board-consensus list like this.... Yeah, it's not going to happen. So we're in the same boat.

Or even with fandom in general. TOS and TNG are the only ones you'll have the majority of people agree on. Once you get into DS9 and beyond, the disagreements become more and more.

I think no matter how much new Star Trek there is, the list won't change too much. If at all. It's like look at a stereotypical Film Snob's list of their Top 100 Films. It'll likely focus most heavily on the '40s and '70s, with some good sampling from the '30s, '50s, and '60s. Then you'll see "modern classics", but I guarantee you most of them will be from the '80s and '90s. As far as anything from this century? It's going to keep getting harder and harder to crack in.
