Best Season of TNG? The 2008 Poll

Best "The Next Generation" Season?

Re: Best season of TNG?

This was a close battle between seasons 3 and 7. I love both of them a lot. But I voted for season 3.

I'd rank 'em like this:

1. 3rd
2. 7th
3. 2nd
4. 6th
5. 5th
6. 4th
7. 1st

Re: Best season of TNG?

Season 3 gets my vote. There is only one bad apple ("The Price"), and the majority of the season ranges from great to outstanding.

Re: Best season of TNG?

Seasons 3-6 are probably representative of the most consistently good run of the show.

I agree that S2 is somewhat underrated. I like Pulaski's rapport with the crew moreso than Beverly, actually. She's a bit crusty, it reminds me of Dr McCoy.

Season seven I have a nostalgic appreciation for, because I remember watching it first-run in my first year of high school (yeah, I'm young). In retrospect, it perhaps was not the greatest of seasons, but I admit to liking Masks, Genesis, Descent II, and Phantasms.

I am not Spock said:

Pulaski may have been crusty and had many more spats with Picard than Beverly, but she did have a good rapport with the crew. She even became one of Data's loudest supporters by the end of the season ("Peak Performance"). I also think that she was right enough because she challenged Data, whereas everyone cuddled him like a child. Her relationship with Worf was top-notch and I like how she related with Riker. Kate was a catalyst for the other characters, especially for Picard and Data, to look more closely at themselves. That was something TNG needed.

Re: Best season of TNG?

When the polls gets working again...I would go for season 7 which was the best in my opinion. It was great throughout season 7. Season 6 would come 2nd

Re: Best season of TNG?

Season 3. Season 5 comes in second, but Season 3 contains a large number of very re-watchable episodes. Season 4 seemed to loose some of the momentum, as they steered the show too far into character-driven episodes. Some of that was regained when Season 5 began and we got episodes like "Darmok" and "The Inner Light".

Re: Best season of TNG?

For some reason I always remember season 6 as my favourite, even though my better judgement thinks otherwise. I think I was sick of Alexander after the fifth season, and I kind of forget that it was full of good shows.

I'll cheat - seasons 3-6 were the best! And an honourable mention goes to the second; I quite liked Pulaski, and it had a couple of excellent shows that are in my TNG Top 10.

Re: Best season of TNG?

IMO, the BEST seasons of TNG were 3 and 4, hands down, no contest... but here is my personal list of favs, in order:

- 3
- 4
- 1
- 2
- 5
- 6
- 7

Re: Best season of TNG?

Ranking from favorite to least favorite:

Season 4
Season 3
Season 6
Season 5
Season 7
Season 2
Season 1

Re: Best season of TNG?

I personally love season three the best. So many great episodes (Yesterday's Enterprise, The Offspring, Best of Both Worlds, etc). It's when the show came into its own.

What do others think?

S3 is my second favorite, still had enough GR influence with more entertain stories, however the 'story telling and theme of S1 makes it the best for me

Re: Best season of TNG?

I can't decide between Seasons 4 and 5. Modern Trek in its prime.

Re: Best season of TNG?

The first variation, seen in the first five episodes, had a seem that ran symetrically down both sides of the front and was a tunic with a regular hem and zipper in the back.
These were my favourite version of the TNG series uniforms.

I think my favourite season is season 5. A lot of my favourite episodes come in that season, and particularly the run of Violations, Connundrum, Powerplay, Ethics, The Outcast, Cause and Effect.
