Best Season 4 of any series.

Where's TOS?

Hey -- where's TOS in the poll ? !

As far as i am concerned -- that's what the ANimated Series was...and the best in the sense that it was one important leg in keeping Trek as a whole alive, using "real" writers and trying out different concepts (such as truly alien crew members liek Arex)
:bolian:

TNG-4 is the best. It was extremely consistent. Almost all the episodes were solid and hit all their marks. There were no awful episodes. At worst, they were merely average and by my count only four were of that mediocrity. The writers didn't rest on their laurels with the season premiere blockbuster of BoBW II.

Instead they used that creativity and audience excitement to springboard into one of the strongest Trek seasons ever. You had a nice mix of stories ranging from high-concept sci-fi mysteries(Remember Me, Clues, Night Terrors, Identity Crisis, Future Imperfect) to character dramas(Family, Legacy, The Host, Half a Life).

As for the other seasons:
DS9-4:
I'm not as crazy about this one as most. It was the second attempt to reinvent DS9 this time with the Klingons and Worf. While WoTW was an exciting two hours, the Klingon tension was never fully utilized by the writers except for a few instances that were less than satisfying.

As a result the Dominion virtually disappeared except for the Paradise Lost/Homefront and the finale. The season consisted of mostly standalones ranging from great to awful. TNG-4 had nothing as bad as Bar Association or The Muse. The season was marked a series of average outings--Little Green Men, Starship Down, Crossfire, To the Death, For the Cause, Broken Link.

Nana didn't shine as brightly as she once did and the season just didn't engage me.

VOY-4: Coming off Scorpion I, I had high hopes for VOY believing the addition of Seven and the Borg would mark a turning point for the waffling series. But whereas BoBW helped TNG continue evolving into a standout series, Scorpion marked a period where VOY would become a tad more consistent and entertaining if not great.

Season four wasn't nearly as consistent as I would have liked with garbage like Vis a Vis, Demon, Unforgettable etc. Say what you will about Brannon but he did manage to create some entertaining telefilms this year and his idea of Seven was a vital boost.

ENT-4:
Probably ENT's most consistent season and enormously entertaining due to the fact the show was finally honoring its heritage by becoming a full-fledged prequel. While there was a dangerous toying with fanwank overload for the most part the writers managed to create entertaining stories that were relevant to the Trek mythos where the name-dropping served the story more than just existing for the sake of it.

ENT's best episode-"The Forge" came out of this season as well as several entertaining if not wholly original trilogies. There were a few missteps-Storm Front, Divergence, Bound and TATV but over all I'd call it a success.

-I find Worf's explanation of "we don't discuss it with outsiders" to be laughable considering Kirk's crew met both types of Klingons and didn't find it to be the least bit strange like DS9's crew did.
Well, the difference for me is that one laugh is intentional (DS9 ep) and the other kind of laugh is not really intentional (ENT ep).

I'll probably be massacred for this, but I actually argued Voyager had the strongest fourth season. THat year gave us some tremendous episodes like Scorpion II, Year of Hell, Living Witness, Message in a Bottle, Killing Game I and II, etc. It was a very entertaining season all around, and probably VOY's peak.

But it was indeed a close call. All of these shows had truly excellent fourth seasons. DS9's fourth year was awesome, and one of the best of the entire series. ENT finally started kicking ass in its S4, and TNG really came into its own that year.

DS9 with TNG thisclose. I like ENT but find season 4 over rated: there's fun stuff but not a lot of substance. VOY was problematic all along, but there was an uptick in season 4 with Seven's arrival, even if they did rely on her and the Borg too much later on for plot material.

Wow, this was hard. Here's my order from best to worst:

TNG
DS9
ENT
VOY

It's tough seeing Enterprise and Voyager ranked so low as the 4th season of both shows were my favourite seasons of each series, whereas TNG's 4th and DS9's 4th were not my favourite seasons of their respective show. But, when comparing the 4th seasons, this is the list I've come up with.

DS9. This is when just about every episode hit the "Pretty Good" mark, usually much higher.

ENT. I hated years 1-3. Year 4 was awesome if only for the Vulcan and Andorian arcs.

TNG: TNG was a fun show to watch and had some high quality TV. I just think TNG season 3 and on is a consistent, fun show, but only occasionally does it reach the level of drama that is allowed by serialization. TNG seasons usually had mix of great and mediocre episodes, but the great episodes often felt like they could have used more breathing room.

VOY: Catsuit... That about sums it up.
Voyager did its best to spice things up with Seven here, but despite a few good outings, I think most of it is deeply mired in mediocrity.

ENT - Even with "These Are The Voyages" I've got to give this one the nod. I'd not been as excited about tuning in to Trek as I was this season since DS9.
TNG - Maybe their best season, along with season six.
DS9 - Great stuff, but some of the episodes in the middle of the season don't stand out as much. However, "The Visitor" is my favorite episode of any TV series, ever.
VOY - Probably it's best season, but it has very tough competition here. A shame, since the show gets really mediocre after this high point, IMO.

Gene Rodenberry said that the animated series was not canon, so I don't consider it canon either. It's a cartoon.

DS9, with plenty of room to spare.

TNG had a few memorable episodes (mostly bookending the season, I believe), but was mostly bland.

I hate taking points off ENT for TATV, because the people who were responsible for the rest of the season had nothing to do with it, but being given a third place finish from me is hardly the most unfair thing that ever happened to that series.

Season 4 of VOY started out promising, but went straight down a black hole.

4th seasons ARE the best, but without a doubt STNG had the best. Its tied in my book, with TOS' season 1 as the best Trek ever.

Yeah, but as time has gone on it's been pretty much accepted into canon, thanks to references in DS9 and ENT.

Roddenberry also said that Dr. Crusher should walk like a stripper (see TNG Writers Bible) -- i don't think that's canon!
