When I was in university, I took a class called Apocalyptic Science Fiction and the teacher asked every student what their favourite science fiction movie was. I said,
"Star Trek: First Contact" and everyone laughed at me. Not because of which Star Trek movie I mentioned, but the fact that I picked a Star Trek movie. I know because they were already starting to laugh after I'd only say Star Trek.

Has anyone else ever been looked down upon for considering a Star Trek movie near the pinnacle of sci-fi? I was ashamed at the time, but I don't care now. I still think my favourite Star Trek movies (II, IV, and VIII) are better than 90% of sci-fi.
"Star Trek: First Contact" is my next favourite after the others I mentioned.
I don't think anyone has mentioned
"Dark City" or
"Equilibrium" yet. I thought both were amazing. I know a lot of people out there think
"Equilibirum" is dumb, but I seriously think it's the best of all the dystopia/negative vision of the future movies. I like it more than
"Blade Runner" AND
"Nineteen Eighty-Four", although I thought the latter was a decent adaptation.
"Minority Report" was cool too.
