Best Recurring Non-Main Character

O'Brien. Even if he wasn't really fleshed out as a character as it was all done later on DS9. But Reg may also be my favorite TNG everyday man.

Gotta be Chief O'brien.

Took a role that was basically fuck all and made it his own. They gradually gave him more and more to do and he ran with it...

O'Brien is a good one. But for others, it was rare to see him (I think a handful to times in the season) but Romulan Commander Tomalak was always a treat.

Guinan. I still wish they had done more with her.

They probably would have but I saw an interview or something one time where they explained that Whoopi Goldberg was always too busy to shoot with them a lot.

Reg is my pick because he had allot of insecurity that was a nice contrast to the other members of the crew who were for the most part all very confident.

I would have liked to seen him a bit more in FC as well.

Even though Ro Laren is one of my favorite characters I voted for Barclay because he was quite different and I found him very amusing. I enjoyed the way they used him in VOY as well.

I voted for O'Brien. He was such a good recurring character that they made him into a main character for DS9.

One thing about Q though. I just watched Qpid last night and it is amazing how Q will says the things that nobody else on the show could possibly say. Most of the time we see the crew very serious, professional, dealing with crises with a calm Starfleet demeanor. Q, though, pokes through all that. He points out the absurdity of life, which I can identify with.

"I read your speech. It is dull, boring, and pedantic - much like yourself."

^^In Deja Q he pulls off a bunch of great one liners to worf.

"Hey Worf, Eat any good books lately?"
"Are you going to tell me the story about the boy who called Worf?"

It was a close one for me between O'Brian and Q, but I went with O'Brian. He was such an interesting character, it grew from TNG to DS9 and kept going.

Precisely why he got my vote. His presence bookended the series and his occasional appearances kept people aware that he was always around, somewhere. And the TNG writers did a great job with the character (for the most part).

I think Q was the voice of the fans - fans critical of the characters. It was as if someone who hated STNG had a voice within the episodes themselves! Calling the mighty Picard boring or the imposing Worf "microbrain" would be impossible for most characters. But Q was free to be as brash as he pleased... much like we are on this message board. That's why he is my favorite trek character of all time.

I voted Q, although Ro wasn't far
behind. Q just brought a flare to the
show, he was so annoying and yet you
couldn't help but like him.
