Superman. When Clark Kent was in Lois' apartment and he decides to tell her the truth, when he takes off his glasses he BECOMES Superman. It's an amazing transformation by Chris Reeve and it sold me on the glasses as a disguise. It was a magical moment.

That's one of my favourite moments of acting...ever.

I cannot pick one in terms of films. The best superhero movies ever, in no particular order, because they are all equal to me;

The Dark Knight
Iron Man
X2
Superman: The Movie
Spider-Man 2
Watchmen

Reeve NAILED it right there. The removal of the glasses. The posture. You'd swear the shape of his face changed too. My favorite scene of any superhero movie and it's essentially just him.

Almost better is the bit in SUPERMAN II when Lois finally figures out his identity. At first, he makes a feeble attempt to deny it. Then, with his back turned to the camera, he gives up the pretense and his entire body language changes. You see him change from Clark to Superman--all from behind and without even a glimpse of his face.

I'm torn between X2 and TDK, but in the end I'm going with TDK because it has a stronger ending.

I might have gone with X2 if the set-ups at the end had paid off better in X-Men 3. A third Singer X-Men movie might have cinched the deal. /sigh

Wow, I had no idea people loved "Iron Man" so much. I still think "X2" is better, but now that the hype has died down, it's good that people seem to have realized that "Iron Man" is more consistent than "Spider-Man 2" and "The Dark Knight".

I guess I'm a little biased because I love the 90s "X-Men" series so much, and "X2" paid tribute to that nicely. :) The love on display for "Superman II" makes me happy as well. Zod is one of the greatest movie characters of all-time. :D

I didn't get the Dark Knight at all. Neither did anyone I know. I'm not saying it was a bad movie but I just don't get the worship.

Yeah, neither do I. It's not even the best Batman movie let alone best Superhero movie.

What don't you guys like about The Dark Knight? I'm not trying to be challenging, or anything, just genuinely curious. Believe me, I recognize some flaws in it myself. It's hardly perfect, but I feel in the end the film on a whole is great despite those flaws.

And to be honest, I don't think any superhero film yet is perfect.

I think my favourite is Yosemite Sam from Outer Space but I'm not sure he qualifies as a superhero.

It's funny how 'Kick-Ass' isn't rated higher, given how so many on this forum appeared to be proclaiming it as the 'best thing since sliced bread' at the time of its release. :) I guess it was just temporary hype.

I don't know. We did a panel on "Superhero Movies" at Shore Leave this year, and every one on the panel, including Bob Greenburger and Mike Barr, cited it as one of the best.

I think Batman Returns is the best film (strong drama, action, visuals); pretty close are Spider-Man 2 (likewise, though the drama isn't quite as good on rewatching) and X-Men (very good action and accessible to nearly-total newcomers like me when I first saw it).

I liked Harvey Dent but found Gordon bland, Batman had little good material, and the Joker lacked the dark-comedy element and didn't seem that evil or impressive.

That's funny because I really enjoyed Gordon but found Harvey Dent annoying. That may be due to the soap opera element of him about to marry Bruce Wayne's old girlfriend.

I can't see how you didn't find the Joker evil. He was rougher than I imagine the Joker myself (I prefer the Marshall Rogers version. Scary as hell but also charming in a creepy sort of way) but he worked for me just as well as Nichelson did. When there's been so many versions of the characters over the decades there's many ways to play them. There's no one "right" way.

The Dark Knight, because it was not constructed like a Superhero film. The characters and environments were taken seriously, and not seen as comic book caricatures.

I picked Spider-Man 2 for bringing that classic superhero feel into the 21st century, but I completely agree that The Dark Knight is the overall best movie on that list for not trying to be a comic book/superhero film.

I think Iron Man also deserves extra praise for bringing a second-tier Marvel superhero up to the same standard as the more popular ones.

Technically, Iron Man edges out X-Men (not the progressively inferior sequels!) and Batman Returns and The Rocketeer. If you add Unbreakable, Superman and Constantine, you've got most of the decent superhero movies listed.:( Most of those movies really aren't very good.
