It's not a single line, but I love this scene. It sums up the outsider attitude toward the Federation and the much of the real world's attitude toward America:
"Up until about 100 years ago, there was one question that burned in every human, that made us study the stars and dream of traveling to them. Are we alone? Our generation is privileged to know the answer to that question. We are all explorers driven to know what's over the horizon, what's beyond our own shores. And yet the more I've experienced, the more I've learned that no matter how far we travel, or how fast we get there, the most profound discoveries are not necessarily beyond that next star. They're within us, woven into the threads that bind us, all of us, to each other. The final frontier begins in this hall. Let's explore it together."
-- Captain Jonathan Archer
"What you had to do...what you always do. Turn death into a fighting chance to live." Kirk and McCoy, about the destruction of the Enteprise (ST III)
I was thinking the other day as to what was the best single line in all of screen Trek, from all the series and films. What do you think?
And to go withe the first one:
"I don't like to lose."
Spock to Kirk "You should make a very convincing Nazi."
I'll be relentless and merciless.
Just. Like. You.
Judging by the number of times I've seen the question raised here, probably more times than they care to think about. (As an interesting aside, the actress who played Daras was very bothered by wearing Nazi symbols and tried to get out of the part on the first day of shooting.)Spock to Kirk "You should make a very convincing Nazi."
I always found that line interesting, given the fact that Nimoy and Shatner are of Jewish heritage. I always wondered how they felt about dressing as Nazis, or if they were ever asked that.
