Best Joss Whedon show?

Best show

Love Firefly, but there's so little of it. Could have been an all-time great. Never really enjoyed Angel. Buffy, however, really surprised me with its consistency and sprinkled in some really outstanding episodes. So Buffy gets my vote.

I'd probably say Firefly if it had been given a better chance, but as it is I've got to go with Angel. Of course I love all three. Here's hoping that Dollhouse will be as good!

Angel. Only one season of Angel was poor (s4) whilst Buffy had more than a few poor seasons for me (4,5,6). Firefly...well I came to it late, and maybe all the "Its the greatest show ever!" gushing I heard prejudiced me against it, but I never got the love it gets. Its enjoyable enough, and has some nice characters, but Blakes 7 did the premise earlier and better IMO. I liked the film a lot though :bolian:

Angel for me, for generally darker stories, great acting and consistency in quality. I even liked the 4th season.

Firefly was good but too short and Buffy wasn't very consistent in quality.

I picked Firefly... because of how short it was and how little a chance it
was given. Because it was just that good with such little a show.

The length does not determine the quality.

I'm surprised at how many people say that Firefly was better but they didn't vote for it because it was so short. If it was better, it was better. If it's the show you'd like to see more of, it was better.

I can't speak for others, but in my case it was more that I love Firefly, it had the potential to be the best of the three, but all in all I thought Angel had more I enjoyed.

By all means, if you enjoyed Angel more, vote for it. It's just that I've seen a few posts where the poster seemed to enjoy Firefly more, but since it didn't have as long a run they voted for one of the others, which I don't get.

I thought the 4th season was by far the best of the series.

Overall, I picked Buffy though.

Had Firefly went into a 2nd or 3rd season (or beyond even that), I'm pretty sure that would have been my pick.

I made reference to the brevity of Firefly, but that wasn't the reason I voted for Buffy instead. I feel had Firefly gone on longer it might have surpassed Buffy in terms of overall greatness. However, there are way more great episodes of Buffy than Firefly. If I were voting on the best first 15 episodes, then Firefly wins hands down--no debate. But overall best Whedon show for me is Buffy.

Angel lost me with the whole son arc as well the addition of some really annoying characters--like the caveman-like guy they pulled from another world or dimension or something (haven't seen the show in about 5 years, so the memory is failing me at the moment). I think I really liked the first three seasons, but struggled to get through the last two.

That would be the son arc again. You just referenced the same thing twice. Unless you're talking about Fred, but it seems unlikely you'd refer to Amy Acker as a 'guy'.

And while I understand your comments on season 4, I'd say that season 5 was a good return to form, quality-wise. I can't really see why that would be a struggle.

Maybe he's thinking of The Groosalugg? The Pylea arc wasn't a high point for me.

Firefly takes the cake since the other two I haven't seen and don't really have any interest in.

Angel as a complete show, although I think Firefly had more potential.

I came here to say This. No surprise Lindley said it first.

Actually, I don't watch fantasy, but over the years I've noticed that I essentially agree with Lindley on most things, so in light of his consistent praise for the show, I went ahead and saw Angel (it helped that the first season is free!). I was not disappointed. I probably enjoyed it more than DS9, though I would still put B5 ahead over all.

Anyway, there is one episode, 3x21 Benediction, that has a scene where Angel goes to confront Holtz - that scene alone makes watching everything in the series leading up to it, 100% worth it:

Angel: You stole my son.

Holtz: I kept your son alive. You murdered mine.

Angel:

Wow.

It's impossible for me to choose between Buffy and Firefly; I think they're equally great in different ways. So I voted for Buffy to edge it a bit closer to equality with Firefly. I like Angel, as well, but not as much as the other two.

Yes, I was thinking of The Groosalugg. Thanks. It has been so long since I last saw the show I couldn't remember character names. That arc really turned me off to the show.
