Best and worst alien designs in Star Trek

What was the name of the race where there was a piece of cartilage (okay, latex :p) that connected the end of his nose to his chin? I think it was on VOY, maybe TNG...

I'm still wondering how the poor guy ate, for crying out loud.

Cheers,

You mean the one I mentioned in the second post? "Melora" (DS9), although the design has shown up a few times since as well.

Any alien who had that stretch of skin that ran from the nose to the chin, going over the mouth. What possible evolutionary advantage did that give? The ability to only drink through a straw for the rest of one's life? See Fallit Kot from the episode "Melora" (DS9) for an example.

Yes, I posted a link in the second post in this thread. Here it is again.

The ONLY possibility (evolution-wise) that I can see that would cause something like that to be at all advantageous is if there were something like the neural parasites from "conspiracy," which I believe entered the body through the mouth.

But that is really, REALLY...um, pardon the bad pun...grasping for straws. Otherwise, I can see absolutely no good reason for that, whatsoever.

Ooops, sorry -- must have skimmed through/missed your original post by accident. My apologies!

I rationalized it in my mind by imagining that it wasn't a natural evolution for that species, but that guy had simply had some really funky cosmetic surgery done in some drunken stupor on some back-water planet somewhere.
Looking at some of the ways people on our planet in our time have mutilated thier bodies, it seems plausible to me.;)

Even worse, they showed that guy with the attached nose/chin thing eating in one episode! It was clearly difficult.
