Best actor on the show?

Shame they'll likely shelve him in future and make Sonequa the Captain.

Honorable mention for Rainn Wilson, his Mudd performance never once reminded me of Dwight Schrute, a character that I watched him play for a decade.

I really think her acting on Discovery is a choice. I have seen her in other things and she's bubbly and animated........I am hoping she will start to loosen up in season 2.......but they may always make her play stoic.

People often confuse "I don't like the character" with "I don't like the acting"

Rapp and Jones also as good as would expect.
But I genuinely love seeing actors I'm not familiar with grow and surprise: Latif, Wiseman, Chieffo. And look forward to seeing them doing more!

The stories are structured so much like an ensemble that the "main character" is often left in the background, which is kinda weird.

Jason Isaacs by a country mile. Anthony Rapp, Doug Jones, Mary Wiseman, and Wilson Cruz are all solid actors/actresses. Shazad Latif has shown a huge improvement in the last two episodes with his PTSD and realization that he was more than just a prisoner to the Klingons.

That leaves Sonequa Martin-Green. I'm not sure whether it's her acting, the writing, or how the directors are suggesting she play the character, but we're 10 episodes in and I really don't care about Burnam. She and Latif have zero chemistry IMHO. She and Wiseman work well together, but I'm thinking that's more a credit to Wiseman and the fact that I find her character intersting.

I forgot to mention Mary Chieffo, who also has been doing a great job and has made L'Rell a very interesting character.

Been saying this for a while. And I hold the same opinion about ds9 and voyager.

One can say maincharacter legt and right but thr episodes play out like an ensemble show, a strong one no doubt. But I got over the "weird" feeling by simply realizing, there isn't a main character.

I think some of it may be the structure of the show so far, which has been entirely arcs. There's no one-offs yet that dig deep into one character. DS9 had lots of one-offs separating larger arcs. Hopefully DSC will find time to set aside the grander machinations to do some more focused character stories. They kinda got into that with Burnham's mental link with Sarek and that was some of my favorite content so far. I'd like to see more of that.

I have a feeling they will get into that in season two, just a hunch that they wrap this up and next season we get more standalones.

It's obvious that Isaacs is a powerful actor who owns the role with such confidence and dominates the screen. I don't think anyone can touch him but I think it's a damn shame that Mary Chieffo is saddled with all that overdone Klingon makeup because I reckon she is nailing it in there. If only she were allowed to do it in English and in a way we could see her face.

I'm so conflicted on Shazad Latif. He has been improving overall but I sometimes get a feeling like he's kind of a B-movie actor trying to rise to the occasion. And sometimes he really does - i.e. in some of the more PTSD-emotional moments in the last episode. And sometimes he just can't quite do it - even in the last episode there were just some dodgy moments. Basically he's one of those guys who too often you can see him acting.
