BEST 2hr/two parter

There have been several two hour or two part episodes in TREK(s) life time. What do you think are the four best two parter/or two hour episodes of STAR TREK.

(THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE PILOTS or SERIES ENDING EPISODES. BUT COULD INCLUDE SEASON CLIFFHANGERS RESOLVED ON FIRST NEW EPISODE OF FOLLOWING YEAR)

1. The Menagerie. I rank this number one because it was just a great story, and well done. Roddenberry was able to craft a wonderful story around that un-used CAGE footage. The different look of the Enterprise ads to the illusion that much of the story took place years before Kirk's time. The concept of the Talosians was pretty good for its time, and the Make-up FX are still creepy over 40 years later.

2. Best of Both Worlds. I rank this pretty high, even though the second hour is predictable. Still, having to wait four months to see the resolution was hell. Well done, if un-even in parts.

3. The Die is Cast. I think this is either part one or part two, but these are two very well done hours of DS9. Garek is forced to torture ODO as the Cardassian and Romulan fleets head to the Gamma Quadrant to destroy the founders. Only to find out it was all a trap set by the Dominion to take out two of the Alpha Quadrant/Beta Quadrant threats.

4. The Way of The Warrior...Worf comes to DS9, Sisko gets a Goatee, mixed with space battles AND Gul Dukat? Great stuff there!!! Though, I do like Root Beer

Last episode of DS9 season 5 and the first one of season 6. Sorry for forgetting their names -.-

Easily The Best of Both Worlds. It is IMO the best two-parter in Trek, the best two hours in Trek ever and very well might be the best two hours of tv period.

1. In Purgatory's Shadow / By Inferno's Light - Dukat siding with the Dominion, Worf's battles in the Dominion prison camp, Changeling Bashir... so many great moments in this two parter.
2. Improbable Cause / The Die Is Cast - As if we didn't already think the Dominion was bad enough, they get even worse. Also, great stuff for Garak and Odo in these two episodes.
3. Favor the Bold / Sacrifice of Angels - Part one is great, but part two is brilliant. I love when Dukat gives Sisko his baseball back at the end.
4. Best of Both Worlds - Part one is one of my favorite episodes in all Trek, but part two, while very good, is a bit of a let down. Otherwise this would rate higher.

The best 2 parters would be The Best of Both Worlds, Time Arrow, Descent for TNG

For Voyager...The Killing Game, Year of Hell, Dark Frontier, Unimatrix Zero, the Eqionox,

You picked some real good ones there too. I forgot about Favor The Bold/Angels. That space battle in Angels is the best ever in TREK history. The shot where the Klingon ships come out of the sun and help punch a hole through the Dominion lines still gives me goose bumps!

I'm gonna have to jump on the 'The Best Of Both Worlds' bandwagon. I'm also going to disagree with 'The Menagerie'. Though it wasn't among the worst episodes of Trek, once 'The Cage' got it's official release it kinda became about as useless as a prick on a pope. OK, maybe it's not as bad as that, but I do love that line.

"Workforce Part 1 &2"

"In a Mirror Darkly Parts 1 &2"

"Equinox Parts 1 &2"

Dark Frontier Parts 1 &2"

TOS: The Menagerie

TNG: Best of Both Worlds

DS9: Call to Arms/A Time to Stand

VOY: Scorpion

ENT: Azati Prime/Damage

I honestly don't see how anyone can rate Best of Both Worlds as even a good Two-parter. The first episode is great, but it is completely let down and undermined by the second half. Which, in my mind, makes it a half-assed two-parter.

I'd vote for either The Menagerie or In a Mirror darkly.

TOS: Not much choice here, i'd like to say The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock but that may not count.
TNG: Definately Best of both Worlds.
DS9: Past Tense, Dick Miller is great in this.
VOY: Year of Hell, my second favourite episodes ever.
ENT: In a Mirror, Darkly

The Year of Hell
In a Mirror, Darkly
Best of Both Worlds
Future's End

Those are my favorites.

1) BOBW
2) Chain Of Command
3) Improbable Cause/Die Is Cast
4) Scorpion

And yeah, as mentioned even though the second part of BOBW isn't as good as the first part, it's still hard to put anything before it.

I've never understood those that say the second half is a let-down. I find it as riveting as Part I. The episode was relentless with its action, surprises, harrowing moments, and characterization. I had no clue what would happen from scene to scene and I had no idea how things would ultimately end up.

There are plenty of strong moments such as the moment as Picard can only shed a single tear that falls from his cheek. Michael Piller pulled out all the stops.

We got to see the Borg steamroll through 39 starships leaving what we later learn is 11000 deaths in its wake. Nothing comes close to the dramatic impact of this scene and its scope until years later with DS9 and the Dominion War.

Patrick Stewart gave a chilling performance as Locutus and his two best scenes included his confrontation with Riker right before the battle and his interaction with Worf in sickbay.

I also thought the episode did a superb job in generating real suspense and tension especially in the rescue of Locutus from the cube and in the final act as they reached Earth along with generating doubt on several occasions as to whether Picard would survive or be reclaimed.

And the battle between the cube and the separated Enterprise was well choreographed and an awesome sight to behold with the anti-matter sequence and shots of reactions on the battle bridge, the shuttlecraft and the cube.

The music was also just as effective as in Part I. Whether the upbeat score capturing the emotional release as though one was emerging from darkness as the Enterprise is in orbit of Earth following the destruction of the cube or the final scene as Picard looks with the reflection as that wonderful little piece of music plays we know the worst is still ahead of him as he begins the process of healing emotionally.

Guinan/Riker was a great scene, the episode ws a nice showcase fo Riker/Frakes, the fatalism was well conveyed in very grim terms.

Truly some of the most epic and compelling moments I've ever seen on tv.
I'd vote for either The Menagerie or In a Mirror darkly.
I enjoyed IaMD quite a bit but I don't see how it is better than BoBW. IaMD felt more like a cartoon than a compelling drama. It was fun but pretty shallow.

I know many criticize ENT's fourth season for being too geared towards fans and engaging in a lot of fanwank. I disagree. I think while a lot of the season is geared towards fans I think the writers did a pretty good job of assembling strong stories on their own and the namedropping and TOS elements only enhanced the stories. But IaMD is one story that does exist mostly to throw as much TOS stuff as they can in the episode with as little story as possible.

1. Chain of Command
2. Dark Frontier
3. In a Mirror, Darkly
4. Demons / Terra Prime

1. Purgatory/Inferno
2. Call to Arms/Time to Stand
3. The Menagerie

I agree - it marks the first time that being assimilated turns into a joke, because you can be de-assimilated so what's the threat?

Someday they need to bring back the Borg but with the ironclad rule: assimilation is permanent, until death, NO EXCEPTIONS! That is the only way the Borg should ever appear again. Treat them with some respect! :(
