Best 1:1 Relationship in ST:VOY

Chief Medical Officer

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
There are a lot of strong 1:1 relationships (non-romantic) in Voyager. Who had the best? Here are some, in no particular order.

1. Janeway and Chakotay
2. Kim and Paris
3. Kes and Janeway
4. Tuvok and Janeway
5. Seven and Janeway
6. Seven and Naomi Wildman
7. Seven and the Doctor
8. Neelix and just about anyone!

Harry and Paris, not a fan of it, but it's clear those guys had the biggest bromance on the show. They even played holodeck characters together. Every time I hear the Toy Story song, "You got a friend in me..." I think of those Bro-bro's.

I agree with Step and Jane, above, but I kinda liked the Doctor's "relationship" with the "Ship", meaning, how he "evolved" to be a legitimate member of the crew and functioning of the "Boat of a Million Parsecs"...

Seven and Janeway had a nicely edgy, mother-rebellious daughter vibe that, at its best, yielded some dramatic moments.

Totally agree with you Greg Cox. I'd even say that the tightened relationships between Janeway and Seven were the highlights moments of seasons 4 and 5. Alas afterward, Seven eventually sided with her mentor and the tangible tensions were less lively and even almost non-existent between them.

Tom and the doctor. They had a tendency to take the mick out of each other and even troll one another.

I like that one too. That was the real reason Tom was in sick bay. The writers liked the chemistry between the two actors.

Hmmm...

I actually quite liked the dynamic between Neelix and Tuvok, with Neelix being the annoying child and Tuvok being the impatiently patient parent

I also liked the dynamic that Seven of Nine had with both the Doctor and Captain Janeway.

In the earlier episodes I liked the scenes with B'Elanna and Chakotay but they faded.

I would have liked to see them make out, or be together in a relationship. B'Elanna let it known from day 1 who she sided with and if--hypothetically-- was a mutiny who she would perform her special engineering abilities for. Give credit to Roxann Biggs for her physical performance whenever she's near Chakotay; there's no doubt she had special feelings for him.
Shame the writers never gave Chakotay any dimensions to support Torres' obvious reactions towards him. She saw him as a great man; the show never provided any evidence of that. A missed opportunity, she ended up being hooked up by the Will Riker wannabe. Ugh!

LOL To be fair I think Paris had a better actor than Riker

I do feel Chakotay was a missed opportunity character development wise and that they could've done more conflict between the Marquis crew and the Voyager crew but they never did much with that, ah well

Having said that I was personally happy that Torres ended up with Paris as that relationship worked IMO.:)

With a conflict between the Maquis and Star Fleet would've been great if Chakotay had a backbone to face off against the infallible Janeway. I think Janeway needed to fall in line to realized she's not in the Alpha Quadrant, and Maquis people will not bendover backwards to her when she makes dumb decisions. Seska's character was ridiculous and a racist development, it's typical she would betray Star Fleet because she's Cardassian. Berman would not allow maybe there's some Star Fleet officers who could be harmful to Voyager.

It would have been interesting to see some Star Fleet personnel side with the Maquis on some issues; nothing outlandish, but something Janeway would disagree with but the crew forced her hand. And was a good decision after all. She would be forced to gloss over TNG rules of stories and take into another level. Again creating their own sub-culture. Oh well. The show was terrible for a reason.

I would have liked to see B'Elena and Chakotay together in a relationship. She knew him for awhile (in Maquis) and it's clear that she had special feelings for him (respect, admiration and love) even if I still don't see why, like STEPhon IT already mentionned it.
