Ben Cross is Sarek

Okay, maybe I'm the only one, and this news seems cool enough, but a small nagging voice in the back of my head is screaming "TOO OLD."

And that picture doesn't help. Strikes me as Amanda pulling an Anna Nicole on a rich Vulcan businessman.

Am I the only one? Because if I am, I can live with it. :)

You must be very young to not know who he is. He played in Chariots of Fire along with F. Murray Abraham who played the Villian in Star Trek: Insurrection.

I don't remember Abraham being in Chariots of Fire, but Ben Cross's character in that film was named Harold Abrahams. Is that what you're thinking of?

He did star with Ian Holm (Bilbo) in that film though :).

Cross is a good choice. I'm looking forward to seeing him. Hell, I'm just plain looking forward to seeing this movie.

According to IMDB, F Murray Abraham was not in COF. However, Alice Kriege, who played the Borg Queen in FC, was.

ooh. Good choice. I've always thought he was a pretty good actor, but seemed to end up in a lot of crap movies...

I saw a post at Aint it cool news that made me laugh

Ben Cross+Wionna Ryder = Zachary Quinto lol
How is this funny?
Cuz dey hafta do teh SEX! hee hee hee!!!1!

Seriously, Cross looks like an excellent choice, though I am unfamiliar w/ his work. Did anyone else notice that his Trekmovie pic was tinted very green?

Cross is one of those guys whose face I recognize, but I can't really recall what he was like in the movies I've seen him in. Still, he looks like a great choice.

Sarek was probably much older than Amanda anyway, so I don't see a problem.

Oh come on, you know the drill... ;)

Ben Cross and Ian Holm. Maybe I should start a 6 Degrees of Star Trek/Middle Earth? :D

...oops. Sorry.

:True Trekker tm mode on:

Ben Cross is the Antichrist!

I was trying to remember who the hell he played in Exorcist: The Beginning, until I remember that I watched the Paul Schrader original prequel Dominion and not the effects-amped Renny Harlin reshoot.

I'm okay with the choice, but I'm fast feeling this movie will be far too self-referential. Does EVERY TOS persona have to show up? Why can't they hold Sarek and Amanda for another film?

I think that you're forgetting that Sarek is supposed to be 102-years-old in Journey to Babel. While Vulcans age slower, the fact is that Sarek is about middle-age for a Vulcan.

Because there could NOT be another film if this one bombs. Plus Spocks parents have been in previous films w/ Kirk & Co. so why not. We don't know for sure how many TOS folks will be tossed in or how large their parts are. Chaple and Rand had small parts in many of the movies. I am interested to see how this film plays out.

Excellent choice. He even looks a bit like Mark Leonard.

I couldn't agree more. I was totally caught off guard by this, but I think Cross is a great choice. I've liked him in most everything I've seen him in (he was the best part of the 90s remake of Dark Shadows.)

Now, if we can only find out what character Jennifer Morrison is playing.

I remember developing a teeny-tiny crush (that had all the markings of becoming a full-blown droolfest ) on him when I was watching the remake of DS. I was soooo disappointed when it was canceled! I still cannot believe he's gonna be Sarek! Spock and Sarek have always been my primary Trek fantasy males! yay! :p

Crap, I didn't even THINK of Ben Cross! He's a great idea! He and Winona Ryder actually DO look like people who could be Zach Quinto's parents (tho I still say Jolene Blalock and Scott Bakula would have been the ideal parental units and to address any canon issues, we could contrive a way for T'Pol and Archer to become Amanda and Sarek after a particularly complicated time travel/transporter accident.)

Now, if we can only find out what character Jennifer Morrison is playing.

She's not Winona Kirk after all?

Another...interesting...casting choice. But like everything else about this movie, I'm prepared to wait and see.

He's a good actor. Intense. Serious. I remember him from The Citadel, a BBC production of years ago. Haven't seen much of him since. I can see him as Sarek.

Actually I liked his character in "First Knight" better than Richard Gere's. "I am the law". That rocks.

Great casting so far, I'm really excited about this.

Are we sure that trend is over? ;)
