Ben Cross is Sarek

WOW, unexpected but great choice. He's pretty old relative to what Lenard/Sarek would have been, but who cares. Nice.

Okay, no idea who this guy is, but he has the right face for it.
You must be very young to not know who he is. He played in Chariots of Fire along with F. Murray Abraham who played the Villian in Star Trek: Insurrection.

I'm 22.

Never seen Chariots of Fire.

Then again, I've never seen most movies. Movies just aren't my thing.

I'm not familiar with his work (never seen Chariots of Fire though I know of it at least) and again, that's a good thing. If you bring in an actor with a widely known style, you end up with people comparing him with the original.

I have concerns with the plot, and I still expect the fanbase to meltdown once the redesigned Enterprise is unveiled, but I certainly have no strong objections in terms of the casting. Though I still hope we get to see Jennifer Garner either as a Vulcan or Romulan or in a Starfleet miniskirt.

Cheers!

Alex

I'm sure I've seen Cross in other movies, but off the top of my head I can't think of any. Still, he seems to have a respectable CV and looks quite like the late Mark Lenard. Works for me.

I saw a post at Aint it cool news that made me laugh

Ben Cross+Wionna Ryder = Zachary Quinto lol

I like it! A serious actor who actually looks a fair amount like Mark Leonard.

I'm good with it!

M'eh. He doesn't look all that much like Lenard, and his version of Captain Nemo in Hallmark's "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" was just terrible. But he will bring some name recognition to the film, even if he hasn't had much impact on the cinema since about 1982.

Ben Cross played Barnabas Collins in the 1992 NBC revival of "Dark Shadows."

^ Thanks, but you can add that to the list of things I haven't seen! In fact, I've just scanned his imdb entry and while I have seen bits of some of the movies on it (First Knight, Chariots, Hannibal), I can honestly say I've never seen any of them in their entirety nor have I seen any of the tv shows he's been in.

Still, here's hoping that this will be a great introduction!

I've never seen anything he's been in either, but after reading the story about his being cast on trekmovie.com, I immediately 'got it' somehow.

I don't remember Abraham being in Chariots of Fire, but Ben Cross's character in that film was named Harold Abrahams. Is that what you're thinking of?

He did star with Ian Holm (Bilbo) in that film though :).

Cross is a good choice. I'm looking forward to seeing him. Hell, I'm just plain looking forward to seeing this movie.
