Beltran to play Chak in the next Renegades

You know him as the former Maquis-turned-first officer of the Starship Voyager, Commander Chakotay. We’re incredibly excited to announce that he’s reprising his role as Chakotay and joining the cast of Star Trek Renegades!
He was an edgier character - especially in the first couple seasons - and will be a perfect fit in the Renegades universe.

What's in it for these people? They are getting Nog and Jake from DS9 next installment as well.

That's the thing I like about it most. Now he can finally play that Chac that he was never allowed to play.

I'm rewatching Voy atm.

The guy is completely deadpan in scenes he should have shown emotion in.

He's more deadpan than Tuvok.

He really puts the "dead" in deadpan!

He is, frankly, terrible. Having seen Renegades he should fit right in.

You know I'm a defender and when I read something like that I want to write something nice. In this case however...

Yes, Chakotay was even more boring than Riker.

I hated Riker, as in he is my most despised character in all of Trek.

I didn't hate Chak. The character is pleasant to look at. But gah, I can see why they started writing Doctor eps and didn't bother writing Chak eps.

Hate is a hard word. Neelix and Kes annoyed me a lot. Chacotay and B'Elanna made me roll my eyes a lot too but Chacotay was too boring to provoke stronger emotions.

I too was happy when they stopped writing Chac-Episodes about his animal-buddy and him doxing boxfights etc. pp. Later he was really just there.

Still if they write something it can be fun and I also expect some gossip bla bla about Voy - if he hated it or not etc pp. That's all part of it. I saw the newest reunion to the 20th on youtube (some whateverCon). He was quite funny. So there is hope and I'm all open for it.

Yep! I did enjoy seeing Russ in particular and Koenig was also a treat. I'd love to see Russ in another (real) Trek movie playing a Vulcan.

I just had a thought. Chak was ruined for multiple novels in relaunch, he had a massive emo breakdown and was basically whining and crying for hundreds of pages. I wonder if they did this to him because he'd been such a hunk of wood for the whole series? Like, had to find a balance so torpedoed him in the other direction.

Also he's married to Janeway now in the novels WILL HE BE MARRIED TO JANEWAY IN RENEGADES?

Yes I know the novels are not canon. Neither is Renegades.

It was pretty sedate compared to the internet.

That is really weak, if you're trying to be inflammatory.

Which he really wasn't.

But he's no longer a widower.

I FULLY expect him to mention "the missus" in an offhand comment in Renegades.

There will be a holo photo of Admiral Janeway on his desk.

I haven't yet made up my midn about Renegades. In general I don't like the dark tone. I like Happy Star Trek and I hope they give more attention to the script next time.

And I hope they don't postpone the relase as often as they did last time.

edit: No, please no novels. If I'd had to know all the non canon stuff to understand it, I would find that very unpleaseant.
