B'Ellanna... how is her name really pronounced?

In the beginning she pronounces it "Bay Lanna" when she introduces her self to Harry.

    However,everyone calls her "Ba Lanna"

Maybe "Bay Lanna" is the Klingon pronounciation?

Kinda like how she puts the Latin accent on when she says "Chakotay." (I love how she pronounces his name.:))

...but to answer your question, it may be.
In "Dreadnaught", the computer voice of herself pronounces it "Bay Lanna" too.

^ I noticed this, too, when I saw "Caretaker." I'm just as perplexed.

And what's the apostrophe for? A missing letter? A glottal stop? Just to look futuristic?

Isn't to indicate accent on the syllable?

Oh wait, that would mean Roxanne is pronouncing it wrong.
With the accent on the syllable, the name would be pronounced "Ba-Lanna" because there would be emphasis more on the "B".

See! This is getting more perplex!

Computer says BAY but the apostrophe makes it BA.

Are we correct with the grammar? Of the appropriate use of the apostrophe?

I loved how Evil Janeway said it in "Living Witness" - "Chak-oh-tey!"

Everyone says "Jake-otay" by season 4:(.

Apostrophes in Klingon often seem to indicate glottal stops - for example, Quo'nos, bat'leth, etc.

So I imagine given the English transliteration, the best pronounciation is probably "Bu-Elanna".

In Barge of the Dead, the other Klingons, including her mother Miral, seem to pronounce it Bu-Elanna, and if anyone knows how to properly pronounce the name, one imagines it would be her.

It does sound quite awkward (although I'm sure perfectly normal when said with a Klingon mouth) so human crew pick one of two imperfect pronounciations.

She's really hot no matter how she pronounces her name.

I will leave you with that helpful and intellectual post.

I guess only a Klingon could have a glottal stop between bat and leth.

As for B'Elanna, if that's really what it is, wouldn't it be more like Ba--Aylanna?
EDIT-- now I see that's actually what you said; sorry.

In retrospect, I think the apostrophes are probably for decoration.

I still disagree with this although I see what you mean. However, actors speaking like Klingons really do seem to do their best to pronounce words like "bat'leth" almost like two separate words spoken quickly, which is pretty much what my understanding of a glottal stop is.

B'Elanna last name of Torres should be "Tore Rezz", Janeway (and others) say "Tore Is" half the time. You'd think Chakotay would get it right.

 B'Elanna is definitely the cutest Klingon in all of Trek.
