Being Erica - Season 4

Flashpoint is a Canadian cop show that CBS airs on Friday nights. And her episode airs tonight on CBS, actually.

FWIW, it's a decent show. I don't watch it regularly, but if I happen to catch it I find it pretty enjoyable. It's hard not to like something that features Enrico Colantini.

Oddly enough, I realized tonight that Flashpoint was the show I've been trying to figure out the name of since I saw a random episode about a year-and-a-half ago, when I walked into the den and saw Erin Karpluk on TV about 15 min. after making my above post.

Sometimes things just work out in neat ways.

The show has begun production.

And in other news, I was in the mall yesterday and came across an egg chair similar to the one Erica had in her new office, so I sat in it. Not a bad chair, but totally impractical for office work.

And in other other news, I saw Erin Karpluk pop up in two movies and a TV show over the last few days.

That is pretty awesome, Technobuilder. And she's simply stunning and hard to miss, so I can see why. She made you stop and look, didn't she? ;)

You can't have a Being Erica thread without giving people a look at the title character, so...

Can't wait to see what promo pics they put out this season.

Moving on... I was going to avoid spoilers for season 4 since I want to go in surprised, but I broke down and read the article and I'll probably check out more stuff if it pops up. I won't go looking for anything though.

A few things caught my attention...

1) More comedy: Not thrilled with having more lightheartedness than they already do, but I'm willing to wait and see what they do.

2) Everything will be tied up: Excellent that this show will be getting a propper wrap-up.

3) Things will start off with Adam: Sounds like the relationship will end. Good. Don't like them together.

4) Erica's first patient: I was thinking in the last few weeks that the gloved one wasn't the patient she's supposed to meet. Looks like he is though. I thought they were going to pull a fake-out and open the new season with this person just being someone Erica knows and just happened to bump into.

5) The magic won't be fully explained: This time/interdimentional travel stuff has become a major point of interest for me. Being able to move throughout the universe to different times and realities, including matrix-like environments, and to basically teleport anywhere by willing a door to open for you is pretty damn cool. I never expected them to fully explain it all, but I look forward to seeing more as well as how Erica makes use of this new power. It'll be a real treat if Erica misuses this power in some way. I hope they go there.

6) Dr. Tom's life: I look forward to seeing what becomes of him and wonder if he'll be getting into a bit of trouble with his superiors because of his personal issues as well as the rule-bending he's engaged in.

7) Dr. Erica: I look forward to seeing how the life of a doctor works by seeing how Erica will balance both lives. I'm also looking forward to seeing if she stays a doctor or gives it all up in the end. Or maybe she'll move on to something else we haven't figured on yet. Afterall, she's missing in the future and Drs Naadia and Arthur seem to have plans for her.

okay this sounds like an interesting new show I have yet to watch. But I checked with hulu and they have all 3 seasons of the series so I will check it out. but I was wondering how this show qualifies as sci fi? and she is a hottie.

You're absolutely right :)

Every body should definitely check out Erica! Okay, that came out slightly wrong but its an amazing show that rightly belongs in my top 10 list of great shows.

I classify Being Erica together with Eureka, Warehouse 13, Chuck and No Ordinary Family as the scifi-lite genre. ie, they make liberal use of scifi elements without going in depth as to how or why "it" works, "it" just does. Unlike most of the other shows that are mostly tongue in cheek, I like Being Erica because it treats its premise seriously and uses it to tackle many important issues.

I have her as my avatar to remind me of her awesomeness :)

As for the show, I'd say, it's a bit like Quantum Leap where the characters are central to the premise with the backing of a sci-fi. You also at times get to see her in someone else's body, like what happened in the Christmas special. It's also got a dose of the short lived Early Edition.

I think the show actually uses the sci fi premise to show us things about human nature that we couldn't see otherwise. As such, I think it is genuine sci fi in the tradition of the best Star Trek TOS episodes, and I think as a series it has progressively taken the concept further along each season.

That doesn't mean every episode hit a home run, but I can't think of a series that compares where there was actual progress to the character generated by the experience of the sci fi elements the way this one has.

Yeah, exactly. I like how it presents issues it deals with. It never takes the easy way out, for example. It usually takes these issues head-on. Quite thought provoking at times. It's honestly deeper than most shows can even dream of, where a lot of them tend to only be superficial in nature. This has heart.

Fantastic! Been anticipating Season 4 as soon as I watched the last episode...

It's funny. Initially, the "time-travel" was the hook for getting me interested, then the mythology of the Doctors & what Therapy is, and now it's a combination of both backed by the characters.

I still can't believe Julianne became one of my favorite characters. Never saw that coming.

Here's hoping some other TrekBBSers can discover this little gem.

I don't think anybody could have considering how nasty she was to Erica in the first season. It's like her character has undergone a complete transformation, but I think it's the effect of having Erica around her and the influence she had on her.

^ The thing about Julianne is it never comes across like her character was completely rewritten or anything. It's just a nice, logical progression and character arc.

Yeah, that too. It's exactly it. It comes across naturally. It's done so naturally that you don't even notice it being done. I think many shows can learn from this. Usually when a change occurs, they usually dramatically hit you over the head with it and remind you many times that they've changed. Lex Luthor, anyone?

I haven't warmed up to Julianne as much as you guys have. She still has a certain vibe that I don't like. I love Jenny though and hope we see her again. It wouldn't surprise me if she became a single mother. That seems like the next thing they'd write for the character.
