Being Erica - Season 3

You could be right, then again, I don't think he's been sure of himself ever since the therapists questioned his motives, so could be that he feels uncertain of himself.

And yeah, I agree Adam and that lady make a cute couple. With the way I see things, considering we've already seen him with her in another timeline, I'm pretty sure it means he's supposed to be together with her. The show has always flirted a lot with romantic situations. What happened on the island, I see it more that they're finally learning to cope with their differences and learning what those differences are. I see them as complete opposites, and while the writers might seem to be pushing them together, I don't think he's good for her. He seems too brash. And I think the writers know that, and that it's being done more as an aspect of learning about each other. They might not make great romantic partners, but as therapeutic partners, sure.

The island told him that predestination is for punks. if he doesn't know why he's pursuing that girl other than he's been shown it's a good idea, then he's driving past the city limits into Punk City. Adam has to do things for his own reasons....

This weeks episode is called "The Tribe has spoken".

Now that's on the nose.

Next week is (the) Adam's family.

(sweet jesus.)

Did anyone else notice Friedkin quoting Yoda?

"There is no try, only do."

^ It might have been filmed around the Scarborough Bluffs area. It didn't quite look tropical, but they did a good job of making it look passable. And I think it was an homage to Survivor. The episode title was "The Tribe Has Spoken".

Definitely the Scarborough Bluffs. Nowhere else around Toronto has quite that look.

Good episode, I thought. Maybe not quite as strong as last week's, as I don't think Erica's and Adam's storylines meshed quite as well as the episode wanted them to, but it was still pretty entertaining on the whole.

^ It is quite nice, not to mention pleasantly surprising, given Scarborough's reputation otherwise.

^ I don't find it that bad myself, as my dad grew up there, and I'd frequently take Eglinton when I drove into Toronto when I was in high school, so I could get to the subway. I was mostly trying to say that for people for whom Scarborough conjures images of a post-apocalyptic gangland, the Bluffs often run contrary to what they might expect to find.

I've always felt that the point of the time travel therapy was not to make wholesale changes to the timeline, but to affect the way the person was living in the present. It was not to alter the outcomes from a hindsight perspective, it was GAIN perspective in the way they live their lives and the decisions they make going forward. The therapist isn't trying to help the person have a perfect past.

If I lived on the other side of my street, I would be living in Scarborough. It's really not that bad. And when I compare it to the city near where I grew up...no contest.

For those who haven't been there, these are from Bluffers Park in the spring before everything got green:

That's the way I've always seen it as well. Which is why I don't think any changes are being made at all. Anything resembling changes are most likely parallels, and the person undergoing the therapy has to make the decisions for themselves as to if they're making some of the same choices in their real lives, like Adam and his landscaping business for instance.

Just finished watching this episode at last and I enjoyed it as well. I'm glad Erica decided to take the risk and stick with Julianne and 50/50, especially considering the jackpot dropped into their laps by Brent.

The island setting was a nice change from the norm, and Erin Karpluk was looking fiiiiine in that red dress. :) (And I've been meaning to mention this for weeks, but I think Julianne is really cute with that short cut.)

One thing I've wondered: How do the others in group know what's happened with the patient who has just stumbled into the session, as with Erika at the beginning? Everyone was aware of the conversation she just had with Julianne. How does that work? Is there a flat screen they watch that shows the life of the person involved, like the Truman Show?

That's a good question. I think it works much the same way as when Erica or anyone for that matter, stumble through to Dr Tom's office. He just happens to know. I don't think we're supposed to think about it too hard. But it seems to be some kind of shared consciousness from being in the same therapy session together.

And yeah, I was surprised by Brent. I thought for sure Julianne would clock him  According to the preview for the next episode, it looks like the tell-all book that Brent gave them is about Jay Manuel from Canada's Next Top Model.

I didn't like last night's episode. Too much focus on Adam and I still don't see him as a good fit for Erica. He was lucky enough to find his alternate reality wife who seemed like a good woman, then the writers mess everything up and stick him back with Erica.

Also, both Erin Karpluk and Michael Riley looked kind of pale, sullen and their lines came off as "phoned in". I was wondering if the flu was going around the set that week.

And Peter McNeill wasn't there either to play Adam's dad. They recast him.

I know, and I agree. I was really confused by the back and forth between them throughout the season. I wasn't sure what they really wanted. His alternate reality wife was perfect for him, but I guess they were trying to show that the alternate reality isn't always what you'll end up getting. I just feel Adam's too violent for Erica. He's a bad influence on her, as she didn't start getting violent and hitting her brother's tormenter with the trophy before he knew her. I believe she would have still done something, but that was rather out of character for her. In a way, I'm glad that they've overcome their differences on the Island, but at the same time I feel they aren't right for each other. A better fit would have been having him stick with that woman, her meeting someone new next season and then going on double dates together or something.

Yeah, I can't say I was a big fan of that one. And I really didn't buy Adam just deciding to ditch Beatrice. We'll see where it goes, I guess, but it could have been done better.

Wow, tonight's episode was excellent! I'm assuming that was the season finale, even though the TV listings didn't indicate that.

Oh my! Dr. Erica! Finally! :D

3x12: "Erica, Interrupted" was supremely awsome! When it started, I thought... Ugh! Another lousy Adam episode, then when things took an unusual turn at the 20 minute mark, I found myself transfixed. I didn't know what was going on and I like a little of that in a show. I felt for Erica's situation and eventually figured that maybe this is what it takes to become a doctor or an enlightened person for that matter and that she should just suck it up and live with her situation even if doesn't seem ideal. It was a good episode and a good test. I would have passed too by the way. :p I especially loved the matrix-like environment and Erica getting to create her own office out of it. Stage 2 is finally over and now it's on to Dr. Erica. Season 4 will be a blast. When this show delivers, it really delivers.

It did seem like a season finale, but there's one more episode left in the season. The promo made it look like some sort of Christmas special.

I'd say "poor Adam", but I was never all that keen on the guy. I did like that certain people are weeded out of Doctor training though, as well as how it was done. Like I said... Good test.

I wonder if next week's season finale will deal with Erica's disappearance in the future or the "plans" that Drs. Naadiah and Arthur were discussing. I hope it's not a standalone Christmas special and that we're in store for these issues being addresed and/or a good cliffhanger. If it is a standalone special though, I'll probably be okay with that. Tonight's episode was more than enough to keep me satisfied and excited.

I also have to mention Erin Karpluk's performance. It was excellent, a far cry from last week's slump.
