Before and After

Ya can use VOY examples to prove or disprove a point just as easily.

exodus, its the second time this week I've had to remind ya there are other forums on this board besides VOY.

Ya wanna discuss other aspects of another Trek series, go to the appropriate forum for it, rather than draggin' the threads in this one off topic.
My examples all related back to Voy., which in every other forum is still considered on topic. Never in my 8 years as a member here have I ever heard you can't use examples from other shows as back up to support your main point in this one. I even brought the topic back around to Voy. to show the relation. Plus, I don't see other posters repremaned in other posts for doing the same thing.

Tom and Kes' daughter didn't exactly have many options as far as picking a mate went, you know, unless she waved goodbye to mom and pops and offloaded to some alien ship or planet.

Uhh, what about the other 70 or 80 men on the ship, the ones who weren't on the command crew? But then, that was one of the problems with later VGR... the stories became so tightly focused on the regulars and just a couple of recurring characters, and nobody else on the ship ever got paid attention to except in passing. But then, that's a perennial problem with most Trek shows. The TOS and TNG Enterprises supposedly had lots of scientists aboard, but only the command crew and a few security guards ever seemed to beam down anywhere. DS9's command crew doubled as Defiant crew instead of there being a separate crew for each, and a Ferengi cadet who never even finished the Academy ended up as chief engineer over countless other qualified candidates who weren't semi-regulars. And so on.

Having all those characters would've cost a lot of money you know. Having the crew do lots was a money saver.

nuBSG got away with it because they had more money to spend on the actors since they spent less on makeup and sets and stuff (the "shaky camera" cinematography, lighting and the fact that CGI is cheaper now then it was 10 years ago offsets it all).

exodus, ya have a problem with this, PM me.

I'm sure in all your years at this board, ya have learned how to use that function.

I loved seeing Captain Chakotay. Frankly, I think the show would have been off better if somehow they would have ended up here! It appeared as if there was real character development! The Doc had a name. It was all great!

What I loved about Captain Chakotay?

He had pips.

No half measure equal but different Maquis provisional rank badges, but pips.

I don't quite remember if the rest of the Maquis got pips as well, as in actual field commissions instead of Janeway's "Lets pretend" game as the crews thought they unified...

Which might also mean that he was handing out pardons, or letting the crew work off their sentences to avoid any lengthly jail time if they ever got home... That is unless Tuvok kept the night school open from Learning Curve and Maquis were actually earning their pips through sweat and hard work?

Because by Season 6's life Line, aboard Janeway's Voyager, there was still a "Maquis problem" according to the admiralty back home. :(

All this is possible, because unlike other Captains, Captain Chakotay is not a shrew or a monster.

Meh. Nature of the Television beast. If you notice, it gets a little ridiculous sometimes...they have Harry stuck at tactical if Tuvok is away or BLT at Ops if Harry is out.

Don't they have other Ops or Tactical officers besides the chiefs? Ah well...if you speak, you have to pay your SAG dues, and you get paid alot more if you actually get to say something.

Since Voyager was a low rated show on a low rated network that was very expensive to make...they probably didn't have the money to spend on other talkies.
