No, I really didn't. I understand why it's happening (keep those Disco subscribers all year around), and although it's gonna be really cool for the next couple of years the long-term picture is not so good. Just look at Netflix's Marvel series, 2 of which are cancelled and viewing data indicates the future of the remaining 3 is bleak. Trek will likely oversaturate itself and die again in the next 5 years. It'll be a glorious death, at least.

Hopefully I am jumping to conclusions too soon, but I am also saddened by the seeming quiet demise of the Kelvin movie series following the Chris' exit from SJ Clarkson's Star Trek 4:sigh:

Trek wouldn't necessarily "oversaturate", I think. If CBS has learned the lessons of Trek's past and the lessons of Marvel's present, they can always steer around this saturation possibility.

My guess is that they won't launch/air 8 Treks at the same time. I think something like a staggered launch of 3-4, run for a few years, a staggered sunset of 1-2 along with launch of the remaining 1-2, and so forth. Managing will be tricky and it will obviously be affected by the actual viewership numbers and the bottom line from each of the 8.

Hopefully, Trek will continue to be fresh for the rest of my lifetime.

Not to the level of having more than one show going. I thought we might get a short lived Kelvin style reboot, then it would be dead forever (cue the naysayers who claim that's exactly what Discovery is).

Was hugely surprised when Discovery was announced, but slightly disappointed it was another prequel. I thought post Nemesis would never happen based on that fact.

Sure I always expect ST to return to the small screen. When and in what shape that would be is a different matter.

They announced, what, 9 upcoming Star Wars movies...and then shelved them after Solo didn't make the gagillions expected?

None of the announced Star Wars movies have been shelved.
An unannounced Boba Fett movie was allegedly shelved, that's it.

What is happening is that they're going to stagger the releases more, probably not one a year anymore.

Have all of these series been announced? I'm aware of announcements only for the first three and for the Jean-Luc Picard series, whichever one that is.
The post says 'potentially', not announced.

All have them been trademarked within the last 6 months however.

Perhaps Short Treks next year can clue people in what the rest of the TNG crew is up to if they don't become a part of the bigger, Picard show.
I reckon Short Treks will be used to supplement the various shows, so some episodes will be Discovery whilst others the Picard show or Lower Decks or the unannounced shows.

Point is, there’s nothing certain here. “Staggered” releases mean some may never happen at all, and others may in their place. Same may happen on Trek.

Right.

It also said "come 2020." Why 2020? Where did 2020 come from? Without an announcement of a relatively near-term time-frame, putting in such an arbitrary date only undermines the claim of potentiality, because that casts it as pure speculation.

With nothing to go on, for all we know, the trademarking could be for any purpose, not just a new TV series. It could potentially (see what I did there?) be for a new video game series, for example.

I'm quite clearly a guy, but even if you want to be gender neutral, say "they". "It" is dehumanising, but maybe that was your intention.

And I would anticipate the bulk of these shows will be released before or during 2020, giving Secret Hideout a 2 year window. I don't think it's unreasonable.

Wow, I saw what you did there, you're so awesome. You're so cool. I'm totes jealous. Awesome! Sick one. You really made your point well. Noice!

And the trademarks are for:

"Entertainment services in the nature of a multimedia program series featuring drama distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing non-downloadable entertainment series in the form of films and television programs featuring drama via video-on-demand services; providing information in the field of entertainment via the Internet and portable and wireless communication devices."

"Digital media, namely, pre-recorded digital video discs, digital versatile discs, DVDs, downloadable audio and video recordings, and high definition digital discs featuring drama; Downloadable multimedia files containing videos relating to programs featuring drama provided via a video-on-demand service."

It's pretty clear they're TV show titles, not whatever crap you're grandstanding about.

From the UNITED STATES PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE [https://tmep.uspto.gov/RDMS/TMEP/current#/current/TMEP-1400d1e1.html]:

Computer software is a product classified in International Class 9 if it is recorded on media or is downloadable and thus can be transferred or copied from a remote computer system for use on a long-term basis. However, providing on-line non-downloadable software is considered a computer service in International Class 42 because it is generally provided for use on a temporary basis. See TMEP §1402.11(a)(xii). An exception, however, is providing online or temporary use of non-downloadable game software, which is classified in International Class 41. See id.

So, yeah, trademark class 41 covers quite a bit, including certain types of online games.

Again, until there's an actual announcement, we can only speculate as to what, if anything, these trademarks will be used for.

I'm going to assume somebody that anal over syntax is intentionally problematic.
The only being problematic here, intentionally or not, is you.

This level of attitude is also uncalled for. Dial it back or you'll be earning a formal Warning.

What did I just wake up to?

They would have announced their cancellation. So right now they’re all still green lit.

Nope. I thought Rick Berman & Brannon Braga murdered Star Trek with the final episode of Enterprise.
What a horrible piece of sh*t.

I figured Trek would come back to TV, but I didn't think they would be developing series' this quickly. It makes sense considering they want to turn CBS All Access into a Star Trek brand, but I hope they don't bring out these series just for the sake of bringing them out. Moderation is the key. Still, I'm excited for the aspect of all parts of the trek spectrum might be covered. I might finally get my "Treaty of Algernon" or Cardassian conflict series. I've been wanting that ever since Enterprise went off the air.
