Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

At this point, I doubt they're going to confuse casual viewers with a random and unnecessary time jump. It will just become necessary to squint and activate your suspension of disbelief. It shouldn't be hard to do that, after all this is a superhero universe.

As some of us mentioned above, there's already been something of a time jump, because now they're talking about Batman disappearing 4 years ago instead of 3. It's not so much a blatant discontinuity as just an implicit wide spacing between episodes that aren't directly consecutive in story terms.

I don't think that's what going on at all.

I think the "4 years" thing is just a reflection of the calendar turning from 2018 to 2019.

Honestly, I don't think it's the casual viewer that will have a problem with the time jump. EDIT: Early in the morning, that's what you're saying, right? Where's my coffee?

The only continuity or 'canon' any single story is ever beholden to is that of its own creation. Even in a serialized TV show, that means a single episode - unless a single narrative stretches across several episodes. Once that burden has been met, then seasonal concerns can be met and then the series as a whole. And in cases such as the DCW, finally the franchise as a whole. To that end, trying to fit the show's internal timeline to match the ultimately arbitrary continuity of another show's episode from a year ago at the beginning of the order operations adds unnecessary obfuscation just to fulfill an obligation to a substantially small number of people.

I wasn't :)

But I did wonder if there was a time in the comics when the penguin was mayor of Gotham or whether that was purely a Batman Returns event.
As I mentioned, it happened in The Batman Adventures Vol. 2, based on the Batman: The Animated Series continuity. I think it's happened in some alternate-continuity stories in comics and in games.
He was also Mayor for a while on Gotham, so I think at this point Penguin becoming Mayor is pretty much a standard part of the character's story.
I finally got caught up this morning, but I really don't remember much of the Executioner episode, so I can't really comment on that one.
It was nice getting to see some of the stuff that happened with Kate and Sophie from Sophie's perspective.
We also got our first situation where an ally wears Kate's costume to convince someone she isn't Batwoman. I wonder if it was purely a coincidence we got a Pennyworth in the costume or it it was a purposeful reference to Alfred covering for Bruce in the '60s series.
I was a bit disappointed Julia left at the end of episode, I liked her. They did quite a bit to establish her character, so I'm hoping we might see her again.
Mary walking in on Kate, Luke, and Julia going to the Batcave was funny. I've been thinking since the pilot that it's inevitable that she'll be one of the next people to find out Kate is Batwoman.
So how much of the episode was Mouse pretending to be Jacob? I had assumed it was just at the end, but someone earlier in the thread said it was the whole episode.

To answer the question about Mouse, the only time we saw the real Jacob in Episode 7 was at the very end when he called someone and said he was on his way back to the city.

Every other appearance of the character in the episode was Mouse in disguise.

I think it's just that they had limited options for female characters close to Kate's age and build and in on the secret. As it was, they had to (reluctantly) change the comics' biracial Julia to white so that she could credibly imitate Batwoman.

I've been expecting that too. She gets drawn closer in every week, it seems.

The whole thing, until the final scene with Jacob in the car driving back from the trip he'd been on the whole time.

Still feeling...out of sorts with all this usage of stock footage of Chicago only slightly modified to recognize specific buildings there being visually repurposed as Gotham-specific landmarks. If they're going to keep using aerial shots of Chicago Board of Trade Building/Wayne Enterprises HQ, then the landscape ought to be getting modified somewhat to show where it is in their version of Gotham City. You know, the rivers and canals?

I know that in the end, it's all about where you put your budget, and this isn't considered as high a priority in terms of setting the scene as it was with Gotham...and that series had different priorities...or Birds of Prey...and again, that series also had priorities of its own...

BoP relied on a digital cityscape which was actually pretty elaborate and impressive for its day, though much less realistic than what we have today. It helped compensate for the very backlot-bound look of "New Gotham" at street level.
