Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

Wait....

When Catherine died, shouldn't Mary have gotten everything, which is billions, and half the Crows outfit?

1. Mary is equal partners with Jacob, and she she can yell him down to leave Batwoman alone.

2. She can buy a real hospital, and run it however she likes.
Catherine had her own company which was bankrolling the Crows. Maybe Jacob is answering to Mary now.

Kinda weird to see the first announcement for the new season be about a character that was also very connected to Kate in the comics being introduced in a show that doesn't have Kate in it anymore.

It's a lucky coincidence that they'd already retconned the character's backstory to be connected to Alice instead of Kate. At least, assuming they didn't know in advance that Rose would be leaving and adjusted the writing accordingly. But the way things were going in the storyline suggested they didn't know.

I still there's an angle to be had with Alice being unreasonably miffed about new girl taking the mantle of Batwoman ("How dare she?").

That is highly plausible. It's common in cases like this to have a character act as an audience surrogate, expressing doubt or unhappiness with a change so that the audience's doubts can be acknowledged and addressed. (Q filled this role on Star Trek spinoffs, complaining that the DS9 crew wasn't up to the level of the Enterprise crew and channeling sexist viewers' dismissal of Janeway.) Alice seems like a natural character to fill that gadfly role here. Plus of course it's in character for her to resent someone taking her sister's mantle.

ahhh...

Bruce's surname could have been Wayne-Kane.

"Wanking".

Dodged a bullet.

Unlike his mother.

I see a twincest loophole.

Alice and Batwoman can now become lovers.

From that casting announcement this Safiyah was referred to numerous times last season. Am I the only one with no memory of that? Maybe it’s because I have no awareness of the comic book character the name did not stand out at all. Once she does appear rewatching the first season those references will standout a lot.

It does reinforce my overall feeling that while I watch and basically enjoy the series, I am not that invested in it at all. Most episodes and characters blur together. With the Kate and Alice relationship being the one thing memorable.

She was the unseen power behind a few incidents over the season, eventually made overt in later episodes. The specifics are here:

For me, this has been true of most of the Arrowverse shows for a while now, with the exceptions of Supergirl and Black Lightning. Those, I rewatch weekly and keep up closely with the narratives. Superman & Lois will certainly join them this season. The rest, eh.

Thanks. That refreshes my memory more than I expected. Not her name but definitely the events she set in motion.

I guess I am in a similar position. The Flash is the only one I am really engaged in. I stopped watching Black Lightning not for quality. But it feel like the same thing every week. Which is the core of my issue with Batwoman. A new lead will certainly change things.

The problem for me with the Arrowverse as a whole is they are slaves to the season long arcs. The characters , the heroes just react to the villains year long plots. They are not really proactive or heroic outside of stopping a specific long arc. It would be nice to have one off episodes about their personal lives. Or civilian characters inspired by their actions. Having a whole season driven by the heroes goal not the villain.

For as many seasons and hundreds of episodes in this vast universe, actually vast multiverse it’s rare that that previous ideas are developed further or real world building is done. No it’s all driven by villain of the season or setting up the next crossover.

Thanks.

The obvious example is they formed this “League of Heroes” ;). Are they only going to get together to stop an alien invasion or villain attack? How about showing them doing community service that only superheroes can do? Playing a charity baseball game. Playing up that they are celebrities. Of course a Superman/Flash race! Totally play it up like the comics. People watching and debating who will win all over the world.

I don't think this is really unique to the Arrowverse though, a lot of the arc driven actions shows are that way.
