Spoilers Batwoman - Season 1

So, a press kit was sent to journalists to promote the DC Fandome event, and included was this new art piece by Jim Lee:

Note Batwoman is definitely black, and has a few changes to the previous costume:

Also, apparently the show is looking to cast Jacob Zsasz, described as a skilled hitman who "proudly carves tally marks onto skin for every victim he kills". Aside from "hitman" seems to suggest he's a mob killer here, as well, at least they got the tally marks right. Why the new first name, though?!

Considering every one else in the picture is a character from a DC movie or TV show currently on or in production, I'm intrigued to see Icon included...

Not everyone. The central images of Batman and Shazam and the more prominent Nightwing between Batman and Harley seem to be the comics versions, and Harley's costume seems to be an amalgam of her movie, comics, and game looks, unless it's a specific variant I can't find an image of online.

I'd like to think that this specific piece of artwork says "our mythology is a multiverse: print, web, TV, movies, games...all of it matters!"

Back to the topic at hand...

The pictures are, but they're still 2 characters with movies in the works , 1 with a cartoon and movie and 1 on a 2 separate TV shows.

But they're the comics versions of the characters. Note that Batman's legs are encircled by three Dick Graysons -- the comics Nightwing, the Young Justice Nightwing, and the Teen Titans Go! Robin. So the distinction between different incarnations of the character does matter here. If their intent were to promote movie or TV versions of the characters, they would show them in their movie or TV appearance. But this event will cover the comics too, so comics versions are included.

Batwoman panel at DC Fandome got moved to September, but Javicia Leslie and Caroline Dries were a part of Legacy of the Bat panel yesterday.

"Kate Kane has disappeared in season 2, and it was controversial to the fans because of course they love Kate Kane, so of course we're going to keep her part of the show," said Dries. "But [Rose's exit] also gave us this really unique opportunity to create a new Batwoman. I decided to make up a character named Ryan Wilder who is the opposite of Kate Kane. Ryan Wilder is a character that Batwoman needs to protect. It just provided a new rich storytelling device for us."

^ How do you interpret "Ryan Wilder is a character that Batwoman needs to protect."? I'm not quite sure what to make of that line.

I guess that she's the kind of person who'd be vulnerable to street-level crime and government corruption every day, and not a richy-rich whose above it all and beats up muggers and crooked judges as a hobby.

I don't know that we're supposed to know that yet. Wondering at the answer is what will get us to watch.

It could mean that she's being hunted by someone and Batwoman's resources and image give her the tools to defend herself. Or it could be more psychological, that she's lost and falling apart and becoming Batwoman gives her a path to redemption and saves her as a person.

Batwoman (the tvshow) show needs to protect Ryan Wilder (the character from tropes and other conventions that are thrown against women and the lgbt community by bad writing.)

It didn't seem to me that she was trying to be cagey and mysterious but maybe, I just thought it was an odd turn of phrase.

I don't think being coy about story details requires any special attitude from a creator; it's just second nature. You want people to find this stuff out in the story itself, where it belongs. So you speak in generalities and themes and hints to tease the audience to want more. That's downright routine.

Wait....

When Catherine died, shouldn't Mary have gotten everything, which is billions, and half the Crows outfit?

1. Mary is equal partners with Jacob, and she she can yell him down to leave Batwoman alone.

2. She can buy a real hospital, and run it however she likes.
