Battlestar to get a more colorful upbeat reboot?

This is a bad idea, NUBSG was the most dramatic and perhaps the best tv. series i've seen. Bryan Singer needs to stop making movies period. After SR I lost all faith in him.

So we're finally going to get a good BSG for the first time in 30 years, huh?

I say, bring it on!

Actually, they were cyborgs. The original Cylons were some manner of humanoid reptiles, but they started upgrading themselves, and eventually, there were either none or very few of the originals left. The silver Cylons had one brain, gold Cylon commanders had two, ship commanders like Lucifer had three, and the Imperious Leader had four.

Which reminds me - the new movie had better have Lucifer!

No. The original Cylons were reptiles that built robots who wiped out the reptiles and now the robots are all that's left.

Meh, I don't really care one way or another, but the timing seems odd. Hey, let's go remake an old series that is still in the process of being remade by a different group!!

nuBSG is over now. There will be no continuation. Yeah you have Caprica but that will be a shadow of the original show. One I dont plan to watch. Nubsg ended badly and there will never be a continuation, so there is more than enough room for a new one.

Meh. I'll wait for some script reviews and trailers to see what the feel of the movie is before i decide if i am going to see it or not. Actually, I'll probably see it anyways.

Im not really a fan of the original series. Like the recent TV series very much.

I watched the original series as a kid and loved it, but then, I was eight. I watched the new show and was largely happy with it (RDM is a little sloppy with his plot arcs, but I still give the series an A minus for the characters alone.) In terms of tackling big, adult issues, it blows the rest of televised scifi away. I don't see what sort of spin they can put on it that won't seem like frivolous fluff in comparison.

Actually, I'm a little disappointed in Singer here. Why on earth would a guy with a solid rep (Superman Returns notwithstanding) want to rehash something somebody else just did?

Well, do we know that The Plan is going to be the last movie done for the series as well? Even if nuBSG is over with The Plan, my point still stands.... Hey, let's go remake an old series that just finished getting remade!

Whether or not The Plan is the final television movie depends on DVD sales, but considering the figures for season 4.5, I expect at least another television movie or two will be produced after this one. Whether there's a need for it or not, it's like printing money for Universal's DVD division.

^ What do you suppose they'd make the nuBSG continuation movie about, though? We'll get the "prequel" with The Plan. I daresay a film following the exploits of the Colonials on Earth would go a long way toward clearing up much of the messy finale, but would anyone (meaning non-die-hard BSG fans) actually tune in to see it? I'd certainly watch it, but I'm not sure how many others would. Is there any other part of the story that needs (or could sustain) a film-length exploration?

^They wouldn't necessarily need a continuation. They could do an in-series movie. Sure, we know what's going to happen, but I'm sure they could still come up with some pretty good stuff.

^ Like what, though? Can you think of an in-series segment that would be worth exploring in a TV film?

I suppose they could always redo the lost time on New Caprica ... but those events are re-hashed on "Unfinished Business" and Baltar's Trial. And I don't think anything during Season 4 really needs to be explored more. As it is, it felt like the series spent too much time on too little. I just don't know where material for another movie might come from.

I want to see Tom Zarek's history. You've already got the perfect framing device, too. After he's captured, but before he's executed. Gaeta got to have his last smoke with Baltar. Why not give Zarek his with Lee (which would make his odd presence at the execution more explainable).

But, you're also right. There's not a lot of room for side stories in a highly serialized show like Battlestar Galactica turned out to be.

And they'll call it Voyager.

Seriously though, I enjoyed the first one when I was ten and loved the last one when I was whatever the hell age I was, but a third go around is getting to be a bit much to consider. What is BSG, the A Christmas Carol of science fiction? No, that would probably be Dune.

For those thinking there might be another tv movie or straight to dvd movie in the nuBSG universe consider this.....Universal has had every single prop, costume, set piece etc etc auctioned off. There is nothing left at all. For that matter things from "The Plan" are already being auctioned off. It would be WAY too costly a venture to do anything else in that universe. Maybe if they kept some sets, props and costumes.....maybe. It would be like them starting all over from scratch for them to do anything else and that just seems cost prohibitive.

They also had everything scanned into the computer so that they could be re-created if another television movie or anything else is made. And, per Edward James Olmos, have a target of units to sell that will greenlight another movie.

They could do a few DVD movies about the 1st Cylon War.
