Battleship gets a positive review

No, I'll watch it when it's on netflix but I wouldn't waste the time for a cinema trip for a film that looks such dross.
People love to trash the idea of movies made from board games, video games and Saturday Night Live sketches, but every so often you get a movie like Clue, Mortal Kombat or Wayne's World.
This could be decent, even a blind chicken and all that.

I dont remember any of these movies being any good.
I guess I've just gotten too old for these kind of epic $100 million cgi action fests (Transformers, GI Joe, Clash of the Titans). aka "Popcorn flicks". I think I hit my limit way back around ID4.
With the possible exception of the Lord of the Rings movies and some of the superhero films, these things just bore the hell out of me.

The reason I mentioned them specifically is that they're generally accepted as the exceptions to the usual rule of making movies based on some sort of other "idea".
They weren't out and out blockbusters, but have discovered their audiences in the home video market, Clue especially. It's a very funny movie, and well worth watching.
A review from Den of Geek? Let me know when a critic I trust gives it anything beyond faint praise. It looks like garbage, and I couldn't imagine seeing it for a price less than free admission based on the reviews I've seen. (The fact that it's a board game adaptation trying to cash in on the Transformers movies doesn't help.)

Add in overweight, noisy, and with young children, and you just about have it.
Truth is, I just enjoy watching movies more at home. That, and if I get bored, I can just change channels and I'm not even out any money.
I don't know how old you are, but I'm pushing 50 and I love these types of movies. I am really looking forward to Battleship. Alien invasion movies are my favorite of the Sci-Fi- genre.

On topic: I'm looking forward to BattleShip. Sometimes I want to go to the movies to simply be entertained by visuals and this film promises to do that with a sci-fi twist.
Saw it last night and I must say I was really surprised by how the film turned out to be. It was quite enjoyable, way, way better than the last two Transformers movies combined.
There was a very interesting use of the board game eventually. Moreover, the aliens' weapons/torpedoes really looked like the pawns of the game. But I only made the connection after the movie ended.
And two AC/DC songs in the same movie (Hard As A Rock and Thunderstruck) can't go wrong!

I also like mindless special effects laden movies and this one looks really good for that.
