Battle of Sector 001-Part Deux

Just for the heck of it, Voyager doesn't have its Transphasics. Does the fleet of 27 stop the Sphere?
(Sidebar: the fleet was pretty lethal-Sovs, Akiras, and Defiants)

I say yes, The E-E destroyed the Queen's sphere in First Contact with just a few quantum torpedoes (presuming Picard wasn't aiming at the sphere's weak spot).

Hmm, Picard destroyed a sphere weakened by a time travel ordeal. Janeway destroyed a sphere apparently by allowing her ship to be sucked inside it, then firing a shot from the inside. Probably superweapons would not have been necessary for a repeat performance of either battle. (But yeah, Janeway would have had major trouble getting into the transwarp network without those superweapons.)

As for the ability of the fleet of 27 to defeat the sphere without Janeway... If there really was a Sovereign there, perhaps there was a Picard there, too? He would again have had "inside info" and would have exposed the weak spot/moment in the sphere!

The USS Prometheus was present, she'd hand the sovereign her ass if you ask me and it's only a sphere not a cube, 27 ships would be more than enough I'd have thought.

That's right! If my memory serves me, the Promy fired the first shot. This was not your father's 359 fleet.

Right it was a fleet that had spent a few years in battle with the Dominion so they were ready and frankly were not in the mood to put up with any Borg crap.

Not to mention they had tactical data gathered from all previous encounters with the borg, as well as admirals from SF in command of the group. I'd say they stood a pretty good chance.

Although it should be noted that it was a fleet that was hastily scrambled together, with little time for coorperation/preperation, so that would be to their disadvantage.

Not expecting resistance!?!? The Sphere popped out practically on Earths doorstep... as a matter of fact I think it popped out the same place the Xindi weapon appeared! If you pop out within visual range of Earth with hostile intent prepare to fight! They learned that lesson after Wolf 359.

Of corse the fleet would have totally obliverated the shere.
The question is: would Voyager have survived a few dozen photon/quantom torpetos? (abative armor was down 2 3% if i remember correctly)

The Borg were not ready either... They were after Voyager only and were probably not expecting heavy resistance beyond that.

I think that whether expecting resistance or not, without voyager the sphere would at least have taken down a number of ships before it was destroyed. It happened during all encounters with the borg. One slice from their disruptors would be enough to slice a medium shielded ship up.

UssHell, remember that it was voyager's AFT armor that was failing. If the armor itself could withstand pounding from borg weapons it would be logical to assume that it could withstand quite a number of quantam/photon torpedo hits from the other angles. However bear in mind, as I have said before, that weapons made to counter the borg doesn't necessarily mean that the weapons are as effective against non-borg species.

A Borg Sphere is nowhere near as powerful as a Borg Cube, even with Borg ability to adapt the Borg cube in 'First Contact' took a heavy beating and a smaller weaker vessel such as a Borg Sphere would have been obliterated when pummeled with Photon & Quantum torpedos so even without Voyagers Transphasic torps the Federation fleet would have kicked the Borg Sphere ass.

Exactly! What resistance was there to expect? As we all know, Earth normally doesn't have any defence fleet nearby. So, unless the Enterprise was sitting in space dock for repairs and being the only ship in range yet again, there was nothing to fear ... :D
