I'm going to hope that Batfleck only kills when absolutely necessary in the heat of battle when it means saving innocent lives, that he would never execute someone down on the ground. So that's where the bat-branding would come in.

What about all the dudes he killed when he was trying to steal the kryptonite? He shot a bunch to death, crushed some others, drove through one guy's face...

So that's where the bat-branding would come in.
But again...to what end?

I was a huge fan of MOS, but after that movie and BvS I have to admit I am kinda ready for a Superman movie that's a bit less... grim.

I don't think they need to get as light and comic booky as the Donner or Marvel movies, but I do think we at least deserve to see a Superman who actually seems happy and confident in his place in the world again. And isn't just some tragic symbolic figure carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, like we've gotten in the last three Superman movies.

I'd hope so too. I'm not sure that they will go that way though:(

Batman branded the worst criminals like those who had kidnapped those women. I don't remember Lex being involved, I thought the prisoners just turned on anyone who'd been beaten by the bat, but maybe I missed something. Some of the people he shot might have survived too.... maybe.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but...why, specifically?

In the theatrical cut we're led to believe the prisoners just do it on their own, the Ult.Ed reveals it's actually yet another facet of Lex's plan.

Some of the people he shot might have survived too.... maybe.
Even though that seems pretty unlikely (he doesn't just shoot at them, he unloads hundreds of rounds per second into them) but let's say one or two managed to survive...that doesn't mean he didn't shoot to kill.

You do know striking fear in the hearts of criminals is kinda his thing, right?
Beating the shit out of them and handcuffing them for the cops worked for a long time, so I'm looking for why he added branding to his M.O. Maybe's he branding them in the other sense too? He does like to put bat logos on all his toys, so I guess this is just the next step. :)

I finally saw it and I enjoyed it. Not a great movie but pretty enjoyable. Not a fan of Eisenberg's Luthor but I do like the movie and I'm looking forward to seeing the extended cut.

I just saw the extended edition on Blu Ray and the first time seeing the movie since I went opening midnight at the cinema back in February and I still like it a lot. The extended edition didn't add anywhere near as much new content as I was hoping but there are scenes that puzzle me to why they were cut and they should of just released pretty much this movie in cinemas with a few cuts in places.

The critical response remains a total joke to me, they were overly harsh and while I still think Man of Steel is the best DCEU movie out of the 3 so far, BvS is not far off it and better than the recent Suicide Squad. I think its a beautifully shot movie with possible the best Batman to date in Affleck and Wonder Woman knocks it out of the park still on repeat watching's. They should of had more Darkseid build up in the movie especially to explain Lex handling of alien tech and they should of cut the Flash out of the dream and just had it all being Darkseid touching upon the darkness in Bruce Wayne trying to manipulate him into turning against Superman. I think a 2 parter with the first about the conflict between Batman & Superman and the follow up about the teaming up against Doomsday and furthering the whole Justice League & future threat from what is coming would of been a better choice for WB/DECEU.

Still a B+ movie IMO.

I thought that was explained pretty well in the movie. Alfred asked if the branding was new, and then he went on about the rage and fear starting. The feeling of powerlessness due to the emergence of Superman.

It brings up the question, but doesn't follow through in my opinion. Are you saing that Batman is branding people because he feels powerless? Batman brands people because Superman exists?

If he needs to frighten them after he's already beaten them senseless and tied them up to leave for the cops, then I guess that must be it.
