Batman RIP finale - SPOILERS

I guess my point simply was when was the last time one of these hyped storylines from DC or Marvel lived up to their hype?

These events are designed to generate hype. Not to tell good stories but constructed by a committee. Usually its the start of the event that is the main idea. One which they don't know how to resolve at the end.

This was a rare case were the ending - Batman RIP - was spelled out in the title.

Yeah, like the hype over Superman's death. The death of superman had terrible artwork and a dumb story. And then he was back in a couple months with a mullet.

I dropped this title somewhere in the middle of the RIP arc, so it feels weird to be defending something I don't even like. But, honestly, who cares what the hype said?

Of course the marketing department or whoever are going to want to make this story sound like a major, world-shaking event. That's their job. I find it pretty odd and very amusing that the people who criticize modern superhero comics for being too obsessed with "events" are often the first ones to complain when stories turn out to be non-events.

I hate DC's current event-obsession, too, which is why appreciate stories that are merely stories and not trying to be newsworthy big event. By people's comments, it sounds like this is one such story, and it's disheartening that people are using that as a mark against it. Yeah, that'll sure show DC that they should ease up on the events.

You mean Marvel/DC comics are usually stupid.

Nah, most comics are stupid, just because they arent Marvel/DC doesnt mean they're not stupid, or that they are good.

I read this issue, I dont think it, in itself, was bad, but as the finale to the RIP storyline I felt it failed to deliver a satisfying end.

Well if any thing good comes out of this, it will put all that "Comic Book God" nonsense to rest. Hopefully.

I like the underlying concept of Batman being prepared for *anything* (and how it managed to give relevance to even the wacky 50's and 60's stories), but the execution of R.I.P. has fallen very flat in my opinion. At best, the plot was murky, and the resolution was disappointingly anti-climatic.

The plot was a mess I thought. Thought the lead-up issue was very good but this was anti-climatic and Batman certainly wasn't deconstructed. Most of it was a ruse.

Yeah, the Green Lantern storylines have been great. The current Nightwing arc has also been really good.

Agree...I too like the LANTERN arcs...they are start off good and always end very good as well...As for Batman being dead? Ummmm...yeah. What would be amazing is they could raised up their 'deadly' sales numbers. If this recession gets even worse, DC/MARVEL will most likely merge...as they almost did in the late 90s

^I was done with masochism after finishing Infinite Crisis.

The thought of my main source of entertainment - Marvel Comics - being defiled by the people who thought Amazons marching through Washington killing boys for being male was a good idea is not one I even dare contemplate.

Agreed friend.
