Batman: Arkham Asylum IS AWESOME, buy it now

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum is getting awesome reviews

It comes out on Friday in the UK. Got mine pre-ordered and can't wait for it to arrive. Looking forward to playing it over the bank holiday weekend.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Just got my CE edition from Amazon. Holy cow, Batman, is the box HUGE! The batarang is bigger than I expected... not as nice as a full replica, but the package on a whole seems like a good value to Bat-fans.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

I enjoyed it. I think my favorite part was the final "boss" encounter in the game where you have to pick off the gun toting bad guys. After seeing all those scenes of batman terrorizing freaked out thugs, it was pretty awesome to actually do it yourself. zipping around the room looking for an isolated thug to take out. Doing the inverted grab and tying thugs to the gargoyles is just freaking awesome, and having the ability to chuck a batarang to cut the rope and make them fall on their head as theirs freinds watched was even better.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Well, I was GOING to buy it, except that it now turns out the PC version isn't out until Sept. 15th.

If I had any money right now I would go and buy an XBox 360, because I'm really tired of PC gaming being forced into its grave by publishers.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Yeah, I don't get the PC version delays. It pretty much happens for every game nowadays.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

The PC version was delayed because PhysX was integrated into the game at a very late date, necessitating some extra work.

Got it this game is freaking awesome!!! Finally i can put down CoD: W@W.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Yeah, I wasn't prepared for how huge the box is. While the batarang isn't as quality as I wanted it to be, it does get points for being full sized. I might try to repaint it at some point. The journal is cool and it was fun to read it before I started playing as it drops a few clues about the plot, but did so in such a way that I was able to connect the dots myself between what the journal said and what was happening in the game. Very satisfying.

I haven't watched the DVD yet (I will later today). The game itself is pretty awesome. It has the most element combat system I have ever seen in an action game. Really simple, but also complex. Been playing in hard mode (which is a good challenge, but not Ninja Gaiden-Hard) and when my fighting is off, I get my butt kicked, but when it is one, I can take out waves of guys. I can't seem to get over a 30x combo-though before I mess up.

Seems to be decently long: I am 6-7 hours in the story and about 33% done according to my file. However, I am not sure if that includes the Riddler Challenges (which I have done a little over 25%) or not. I do know based on what I have seen that I have at least 3 boss fights left, so I am not at the end.

The challenge mode is cool and is a good way to practice your moves. The moves you unlock in the main game get added to your repertoire in the challenge mode, so that is pretty cool.

Also, I head-butted a guy in the nuts.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Loving the game.

The combat is GORGEOUS. How incredibly fluid - each fight almost looks like it was choreographed by a professional.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

I feel Batman AA does a better job at stealth action than MGS.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Mark Hamill should win some kind of award for his amazing work as the Joker, beyond awesome IMO.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

I especially like how he incorporated a bit of Ledger's Joker as well to make this one a bit darker than TAS. It is a bit sad that he is more well known for Luke than the Joker where he is brilliant.

This game is all-around quality. The challenge rooms are a lot of fun. I spent a good hour trying to get 3 medals in one of the combat ones. I only wish that the stealth ones were scored based on time as well, though I guess time is a score in and of itself.

Is that the reason why Red Faction: Guerrilla is coming out for PC like 5 months after the X360 and PS3 versions?

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

^Probably because they want to encourage more people to buy consoles.

I thought the same while playing the demo, but then I remembered watching Dark Knight and noticing a few moments that I could have sworn were inspired by Hamill's performance. So maybe it's a little of both or maybe it's just that both actors REALLY get/got the Joker.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Supposedly, Arkham Asylum is going to be the last time Hamill does The Joker. That would be a shame, but I suppose he's done more than enough.
