Batman: Arkham Asylum IS AWESOME, buy it now

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

I don't think he's ever been anything less in that role.

People think I'm crazy, but I really do put a lot of stock in the voice for characters like Batman and The Joker. I've said before that I consider Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to be the definitive Batman and Joker, and I'll stand by that.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

I just beat the story on Hard. I can see the complaints about the final boss fight in that it is a little silly, but it is still well done. I still have about 25% left to do (do more Riddler Challenges and unlock for Challenge Rooms) and I am actually going to do it. The challenge rooms are a great addition and extend the life of the game a lot. That is because the combat is so much fun. It is all about analyzing threats and being aware of your surrounds, not pulling off button mashing or complex combos. So far, I have put in at least 20 hours into the game and will put in at least 20 more. My biggest complaint is that the pacing gets a bit off up to the end and that is a minor complaint. Some of the plot holes are a bit of a stretch, but they are there to give the game more of a Metroidvania feel, which I can't really argue against.

I think only Brutal Legend might top this for me, but it will be hard.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

The PC version was delayed because PhysX was integrated into the game at a very late date, necessitating some extra work.
Is that the reason why Red Faction: Guerrilla is coming out for PC like 5 months after the X360 and PS3 versions?

With the pc version you have to account for way more hardware configurations than the console counterparts. But really if they wanted to they could have had a same day release, it's just not worth it because the pc games market is so much smaller and the threat of piracy. They can hold out the pc version and hope that pirates give in and buy the console version.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Plus, you know, the late-in-development addition of PhysX that I mentioned earlier.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Isn't there a Batman TPB with the same title? I was wondering if the game got its plot from the novel.

more or less

Commissioner Gordon informs Batman that the patients of Arkham Asylum have taken over the building, and will murder the staff unless Batman agrees to meet with them. Among the hostages is a young woman named Pearl, who works in the kitchens; the current Administrator, Dr. Cavendish; and Dr. Ruth Adams, a therapist. The patients are led by The Joker, who kills a guard to spur Batman to obey his wishes. Two-Face, meanwhile, has degenerated even further into madness as a result of Adams' therapy; she replaced his trademark coin with a six-sided die, and then with a tarot deck of cards, in the hope that he would begin to realize he doesn't need any of them. It instead renders him incapable of even making simple decisions such as going to the bathroom.
Batman is forced into a game of hide and seek, and told he has one hour to make his way through the maze-like corridors and find a way out before his old foes are sent to find him

Quoted for truth.

They'll always be the voices in my head when I'm reading the books.

I like the game sofar, the encounters with Scarecrow and the Riddler trophys change things up nicely...

And, Penny Arcade:

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

This game is amazing. Batman's probably my favorite comic book character, and I'm so glad AA is living up to the hype. It's so good to have Conroy and (especially) Hamill back, too.

WIN. :guffaw:

One Solid Snake away from epic win.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Well, I beat the story mode on Hard (didn't even try normal) and got all the Riddler Trophies. All I have left is to medal all of the Silent Predator Challenge Rooms. Some of the tasks they give you are tricky. I haven't even touched the extreme challenge ones. I own on the combat challenge rooms. I am pretty sure that I can break 100k on at least one, though I need to sharpen up my combos a bit.

Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum demo

Because of this game being incredibly good, and a legitimate contender for 2009 Game of the Year, I have thusly changed this thread title.

Taking in some games so I can get it quicker probably 2 weeks from now, it will be a long wait :(

I wonder what Yahtzee will have to say. Probably something involving bollocks, Branston Pickle, and gays. ;)
