Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoilers)

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I am very glad I am not the only one who caught the incestuous subtexts.

In fact, in the previews, there is a scene where the mom is making out with someone. Until she met the Deputy Sheriff, I thought that was supposed to be her and Norman!

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I was looking but didn't see it. Did Robert Bloch get cited in the credits?

"Based on characters created by . . . ."

Yes. I thought I saw that flash on the screen.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I didn't care for Norman being in town for like five minutes and four hot girls are on him and then a hot teacher flirts with him.

I know right?!?! I kept thinking where's the ugly or average looking chick among the group of girls?

And flirty as hell with a nerdy introvert like Norman? uh no.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I agree with Guy. They weren't really flirting with him. He was "best friend" (safe) guy material. A bit of an oddity to them. Not all teenaged girls are mean. I'm glad the writers went against type.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

You can call it what you want, but almost every woman thus far on the show is way too friendly with Norman. We do know that one of the teens digs him and I do believe that that teacher was a little too close to him, and why did the camera do the close up of her hand touching his? Granted I don't think that all of the girls in the car were digging Norman romantically, but I did find it odd that they all warmed to him so quickly and even had him jump in their car, when they didn't know this guy from anyone. Perhaps you can chalk it up to teenage impulsiveness, but it didn't quite ring true for me.

I did like the scene though where they invite him to 'study' and he actually thinks he's going to study. It sounds like something I would've done.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

Well, grades are important.

It doesn't matter if those girls were offering sex or Friendship, it only matters how Norman "interprets" what they said/did, and what he feels is a justifiable punishment for the gap between what really happened and what he thought happened.

Norman looks like a school yard shooter. Even if it's subconscious, or just Darwinism in action, it's a relatively inexpensive defence offensive called "being nice and inclusive" which limits the number of whackjobs unloading their dads ak47 into the lunch-room because there's no one to revenge upon.

The future is now.

Or is it possible that their parents raised them right in a small time with no big city influences and they are nice kids like it was still the 1950s all over again? Like a less extreme version of the Village.

Bingo. There's a touch of the surreal in how Norman interacts with his environment. It made me wonder how much was real and how much in his mind.

This is how I interpreted it as well. I think this was his perception of the introduction/car ride/party. I think it is possible we may see the girls' version of the events in the future...when the "sweet boy" begins to unravel.

During the closing credits.

Cool. Nice to see him get some recognition. It always bothers me when articles about PSYCHO (and this new show) don't even bother to mention Bloch, often implying that the Hitchcock movie invented Norman Bates out of thin air . . .

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

No, it didn't suck. One of my new favorites, in fact. Thanks, Guy; for posting the OP. I might have missed this one, otherwise.

Congratulations to Universal/A&E for putting a winner together. Both Bloch/Hitchcock would be pleased.

Cheers.

HOLY MOLY! Did that second episode pick up or what? Christ on a cracker, Norman is a sick little puppy. I can appreciate him not wanting Dylan to call Norma a whore, but to actually take a meat tenderizer to the back of his head--or try to--the kid is off his nut, just like mommy.

Can you say "zero" personal space between them sitting on the bed after she showed him her lace teddy whilst changing shirts? :cardie: Of course, as sick as the town is, Norman and Norma may blend in nicely. Criminy. :wtf:

Who's that actor playing Dylan? I know I've seen him. Love, love, LOVE the addition of the character (I thought I'd hate an added brother) but did TPTB have to name him Dylan? It's such a generic Tiger Beat teen dream name and the character is anything but. I wonder if his father will ever show up.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

It's an interesting show. There are some parts which are too goofy, anything with teenagers other than Norman, but Vera Farmiga is phenomenal.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I loved the subtext.

"I am not going to raise your wheezy children just because you're planning on punking out at 27."

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

Really? I interpreted it as just the opposite. Norma wouldn't let him go out with Bradley, but she didn't mind letting him go out with the "competition" who at most will live to be 27.

So the deep fried hanging dude at the end....this was the town taking care of the perpetrator who set fire to Bradley's father's warehouse "in its own way"? Like I said, Norma and little Norma may fit in quite nicely. I hope Norma isn't the one who set fire to Bradley's father's warehouse to keep his pretty daughter occupied and away from the hotel. She didn't look too shocked. Gosh.....that's terrible. The woman is weird. :wtf:

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I was reaching thinking about children, but calculate what's going to happen to Norman's heart if he falls in love with a girl who is going to die so young, with such a basement level quality life through out?

It's pragmatically mercenary to transfer tragedy, but usually a parent wants to guide their child away from obvious painful experiences like licking light switches, or falling for a dead girl.

Maybe there's Münchhausen by Proxy at work and Norma is ecstatic at the thought of picking up the pieces after this girl dies, but then it's not like she has to wait for natural causes if she gets off on consoling her tearful son?

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

I love the craziness of the series. It's a nice surprising show. I love the town which is not unlike Twin Peaks.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

Everyone sold Dope in Twin Peaks too?

Well, that explains the Log Lady.

Re: Bates Motel seemed like it's going 2 suck, & then it didn't.(Spoil

Norma is seriously fucked up in the head. Looks like she fits perfectly in this town. So people take justice in their own hands and the cops are cool with it?
