Nah, season 2 was mostly good to excellent. Only the wedding episode was complete rubbish.

I think RTD said in an interview that no matter what series order they get he will be sticking to telling stories in this way.

Shooting dates and stuff still to be worked out but he was pretty unequivocal in his statement that it's coming back for a full 13 episodes.

I was at the Collectormania London the day before and he confirmed then that there would be a new series with 13 episodes production starting in January.

I'm glad it's a full season rather than another miniseries. Although I agree "Children of Earth" was an incredibly powerful piece of drama, I don't think they should try to do it twice. At least not right away. Perhaps start the season with 7 or 8 standalones and then launch into a new mega-intense arc. We need time to decompress and to introduce a new Torchwood team to replace the fallen.

Not really. Remember it's the US that demands its shows run year after year consecutively. In the UK it's quite normal for a year or more to pass between seasons. We're seeing it now with Doctor Who (specials notwithstanding) and Red Dwarf took it to extremes, with something like 4 years passing between seasons at one point (which IIRC was enough time for one of its stars to go off and do his own series).

Yeah, Red Dwarf Series VI was in 1993. Everyone then had to wait until 1997 for the non-resolution to the cliffhanger in Series VII. However, IIRC, Chris Barrie had already been doing Brittas Empire concurrently with Red Dwarf for at least a couple years when Red Dwarf went on its big hiatus. (Frankly, I was always surprised that Barrie decided to leave Red Dwarfduring Series VII. He only ended up being absent for 4 episodes anyway. I can't imagine that would have tied him up too severely.)

Well, it's not as if these 2 producers don't get along. While I do suspect that Torchwood will continue to move further away from Doctor Who, I don't think another crossover is out of the question. I think that if anything will really throw a monkey wrench into the works, it would be that Jack will have gone to such an irrevocably dark place that they simply cannot revive the carefree sex addicted sidekick that Doctor Who audiences are used to.

After the way Season 2 ended, plus the events in "Children of Earth," these guys need some light-hearted adventures. I'm tired of everybody dying!
