Barrowman Confirms TW Series 4

that certianly does sound hopeful, and that they are well on the way to confirming a 4th series , if not already there, but yet it might be a while before filming starts.

That's cool. I'm curious about where they go from the end of "Cildren of Earth".

In an interview a few weeks back he said that his calender was booking up fast, already well in to 2012, but was setting aside time for Torchwood.

Sounds good. But it seems its some time away though.

Not really. Remember it's the US that demands its shows run year after year consecutively. In the UK it's quite normal for a year or more to pass between seasons. We're seeing it now with Doctor Who (specials notwithstanding) and Red Dwarf took it to extremes, with something like 4 years passing between seasons at one point (which IIRC was enough time for one of its stars to go off and do his own series).

What will be interesting with Series 4 is Russell Davies has indicated he's staying with the show -- Moffat is NOT taking it over, too -- so the question will be whether TW will remain closely tied in with Doctor Who or start to move away even more than Children of Earth. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Seasons 1 and 2 saw TW with its training wheels on -- the first season having episodes with Cyberwomen and tying in with the Doctor's hand and all that, while Season 2 featured Martha Jones. The show finally left the nest with Children of Earth (UNIT cameo notwithstanding) and I can only hope it continues to fly with whatever Series 4 has to offer.

^I would hazard a guess that TPTB realized how well Torchwood works apart from Doctor Who, and will continue its association with that franchise only in that it takes place in the same universe. Given the ratings we saw for CoE, I would expect something equally grim and serious...

Sounds good! :techman:

The ending of Children of Earth seemed pretty final. But regardless, Torchwood only has two of its original cast. This pretty much require a few new character for the cast.

A new cast to join Jack, Gwen and her husband will breath new life into the show but I would not be surprised to see Gwen bite the bullet in any 4th season. I hope we see a darker Jack pp up in the 11th Doctor's show and that encounter will be the reason why Jack returns to Earth.

That seems very unlikely as the two shows now have different production teams and Russell T Davies isn't involved in the fifth season of Who at all. I don't see him pitching a story to tie in to Torchwood to Moffat.

I see the BBC pitching one to both production teams.

And by "pitching" I mean "heavily insisting upon."

yes it would be tricky for two different exec producers to use the same character, and keep the character time line straight.

I would love for them to somehow add Rose to the cast. Maybe she'll fall through the Rift!

Well really glad its coming back (words I never thought I'd hear myself say!) but I am aprehensive. On the one hand CoE was brilliant and I don't want to go back to Cybergirls and them saying fuck every 30 seconds to appear edgy, but by the same token it would be nice to have something of a lighter tone than CoE (I don't think my heart would stand it otherwise) If they can find some middle ground between S2 and CoE I think S4 could be brilliant!
